Took a little break from crochet to try my hand at sewing. I got the pattern from WitchCrafty on YouTube and used her tutorial video to make these adorable Among Us characters. Not too shabby for my first time sewing.

Welcome to a quick tour through the science and aesthetic corners of my living space.

My little witchcraft shrine:

Located in my second bookshelf between the booze and the book of the authors Sch-Wel. From left to right: edible rocks, colorful test tubes (shot-glasses to be precise; my mom thought they were vases), in the front tiny hands, the spheres are results of some science experiments where @ilovebooks-forever and I made short lived bouncy balls with planet optics. Then my wisdom teeth and a dentists gypsum model of my teeth. A "diploma ars magica" I got from an escape room, my wand and quill, an hourglass with golden glass beads, my late grandma's songbook, a molluscs fossil in slate and hp stamps.

Then there is my workspace:

A cute solar system my mom gave me when she realised nothing she can do or say will stop me from trying to become an astronaut along with my little sisters artworks and fam pictures, one photo of me when I was still carefree and the one and only original nelu-chan artwork of a spiral galaxy.

Next up is my "potions" fairy light, though @chiribomb definitely has the waaaaayyyy cooler one located in front of authors Hei-Mcc in my first bookshelf

I started doing needlework again and made a cauldron pin cushion with fabric, felting wool, thread, rice, a sachet bag, a piece of quartz and a plastic cauldron my kids use with their dolls that they let me use if I promised to buy more when they come out in stores. 😂😍🧵🪡

I also made a mushroom-ish one that I think needs cute ribbon on it. 😂

THE HARE AND THE RABBIT

Hare and rabbit are lunar animals. Whether in the Americas, Europe, Asia, Africa or anywhere else in the world, they are associated with the moon. They can be seen in the dark spots on the night sky.

But they are also linked to the Goddess Earth (for those whose beliefs it is), as well as to the underworld because they dig galleries. 

They are therefore linked to the element of the earth.

In our rural cemeteries, where he frequently makes his home, it is not uncommon to see him rising from an old grave. His procreative faculty makes him a symbol of fecundity associated with the moon and its fecundating power. So its image can be used during your ritual or Sabbath of feconditer as in Ostara.

Naturally fearful, the hare is associated with fear. The expression running away like a hare (or a rabbit) evokes this fear, but being crazy like a rabbit alludes to the animal's lustfulness. The rabbit's foot is known to be a powerful good-luck charm.

In cultures and religions :

In Egypt, Osiris is, in his animal form, represented by a hare.

In Islam, Ali, the descendant of the Prophet, appears as a hare symbolizing the sacrificed son. The idea of the divine sacrifice symbolized by the death of the hare is also present in Buddhism. The Boddhisattva takes the appearance of a hare to throw himself into the flames. Likewise, a hare burns himself to death to feed the starving Buddha.

Östara in Germanic countries, Easter in Anglo-Saxon countries, is a goddess of fecundity who is celebrated at the spring equinox, a moment when day and night are of equal length, and who announces germination - in other words, resurrection. Her symbolic animal is the hare. Östara and Easter are to be compared with Astarte / Ishtar / Aphrodite / Venus.

As an image linked to the Goddess, the hare has long symbolized paganism in Christianity. Its capture by a hunter was once a metaphor for defeated paganism. But because it is lunar and therefore of a changing and ambivalent nature, it also represents the divine Son, Christ, sacrificed [10] and risen. Moreover, in Christian iconography, three hares in a circle and united by their ears is a symbol of the Trinity. 11] They can also recall the three phases of the moon (rising, full, falling). A white hare lying at the feet of Mary (Our Lady) embodies victory over the "temptation of the flesh".

In Native American myths, the hare is a cultural hero, cunning, clever, capable of defeating stronger than himself (bears, buffaloes), a product of Robin Hood, Peter Pan and the Trickster. This divine rascal, whose universality was demonstrated by C. G. Jung, symbolically resembles Mercury, the god of thieves and cheaters, the mischievous rascals, himself a symbol of the first stage of the alchemists' Mercury. Just like the child Mercury who became Hermes, the messenger of the gods, the Amerindian lunar hare can transcend itself into a "big rabbit" or "big hare", also an intercessor between men and the divine principle (the Great Manitou).

The hare is the fourth sign of the Chinese zodiac. In mythology, the moon is inhabited by a jade hare very busy preparing an elixir of Immortality. It is a symbol of long life. It represents the cyclical and perpetual renewal of life and nature. The Chinese lend the animal qualities of lucidity and clairvoyance. Indeed, the hare is born with its eyes open.

In dreams, rabbit and hare are distinguished. The rabbit, associated with lust because of its unbridled sexuality and its proliferation, can signify an overflow of libido but also any proliferation that has no apparent connection with sexuality. The hare, on the other hand, is associated with speed, running, rapidity. It can symbolize dynamism, agility, reflexes and the instinctive intelligence of the dreamer.

“Friend Protection Spell”

Just a quick introductory note: Feel free to reblog, write this in your book, leave out what doesn’t resonate with you, or add something in. Please feel free to make this spell your own. It’s been a very, very long time since I’ve considered myself a “practicing witch”, but look. I’m a hufflepuff and someone really, really fucked with my friend. And I am not about to let that slide. So this is a spell I wrote out of anger, loyalty and care. Use at your discretion, as this spell will really pack a punch. If this spell does not resonate with you, please continue scrolling. I am not wiccan, so I do not follow the “three fold law”. 

This is a spell to protect someone you love from an outside “attack” or “bullying” from others. My friend worked so, so hard with such a good heart, and people tore her down because they could not stand others that held even a semblance of power over them. This is what I created for such instances.

You will need:

-A poppet to represent your friend (I personally use a TP roll, write her name on a piece of paper, stuff it in, sew the ends shut with a biodegradable thread when I am ready)

-The names of the bullies or perpetrators on a piece of paper. This is very important. You must have the names.

-1 long black string for protection

-1 long orange string for justice

-1 light blue candle for tranquility (using a lighter beneath a crayon works just fine - you just need the wax to drip)

-1 red candle for strength and survival

-Basil for protection

-A fire-safe container

-Matches or a lighter

-Water for fire safety

-Thorns from a bush or tree

-Something to represent Justice such as a little picture of weighing scales

The Spell:

Create your poppet with your beloved friend in mind, focusing on the good in their heart and how much you care about them. Before stitching or finishing your poppet up, stuff some basil into it for protection along with your small image of Justice. Next, take your black string and begin winding it around your poppet.

While doing so, say,

  “May you be shielded from those who wish you ill

   and their intentions fall short of their will.

  May harm pass you by

  and never have to ask why.”

Light your blue candle or crayon, and drip wax over the ends of your string after you tie it.

While doing so, say,

  “May your mind rest at peace

  and your heartache cease.”

Take your orange string and begin to wrap it around your poppet. Think of how your friend deserves justice. Put all of your emotions into this as you wrap and say,

  “With this string, I call to the truth and banish the lies

  May your name be cleared and you surrounded by allies.

  May Justice come forth and bring whats right

  and the real story come to the light.”

Light your red candle/crayon and imagine all the strength and perseverance you wish to send to your friend. Let the wax drip onto the orange cord and say,

  “I am with you until the end

  My support I will always lend.

  May you stay strong against the wind

  And your power never bend.”

Set your poppet off to the side. Bring out your fire-safe container, the paper with the harassers’ names, and the thorns. One by one, rip up the papers with the names and let them drop into the container.

Say,

  “Your power is nothing

  May you watch it rotting.

  Your lies are swept away

  And you stop your dismay.

  What harm has been sent

  Is now spent. 

  With these thorns 

  your evil abilities are torn.

  Your actions will stop with this fire

  And now your actions will retire.”

Keeping your water nearby, light your fire. Let it burn until the paper and thorns are ashes. Next, take the ashes outside. Throw them into the air (wind is best, but not necessary).

Say,

  “May your ill intentions be released

   And you forever leave my friend in peace.” 

Take your (friend) poppet, and put it somewhere safe. When the situation is finally over, wait one week to be sure, and then you may burn the poppet with this chant.

  “May all anger and hurt slip away

  And your heart not feel dismay.

  May justice always come to serve

  And steel leave your nerves.”

Month of Spreads Day 3- The Gentle Spread

Question: What can I do to be more gentle towards myself?

I really enjoyed reflecting with today’s spread an. I wrote a lot more that I intended to about this reading so if your interested in what all I wrote:

I am in a transitionary period professionally, after two years of classroom teaching at two very different schools with two very challenging groups of students I decided to leave the classroom and pursue my dream of working as a professional environmental educator. It’s been a rough couple of months since the teaching paycheck stopped coming in and our two income home dropped down to one. I am quite lucky to have a husband who understands and has steady work as a teacher himself and he loves his job . But since his school year started it has left me home alone and feeling isolated somedays. As a drama teacher he has rehearsals after school and he is also currently singing in a production of Bernstein’s Mass so I am lucky to get 30 minute s with him while he scarfs down dinner before heading to another 3 hour rehearsal. Then when getting home we watch an episode or two of something and he heads to bed.

I am my own biggest critic and am very hard on myself sometimes. I strive for perfection and being the best and if I can’t be the best then I loose interest. Sometimes this culminates in a perfect storm of anxiety and self doubt and then being overwhelmed by it all I will shut down completely. This is something I am working on and could be its whole own post and very well might be soon

Anyway enough with background and let’s look at what the cards are saying today.

Obviously something that is immediately noticeable is all the cards in this reading are wands and this isn’t uncommon for me recently. I see wands ALOT in my readings. Being the suit of fire and related to creative pursuit this makes sense. I’m a Leo and am drawn to creative expression in everything. One of my daily practices is to try and create something with my hands each day. Here are just a few examples: In my World Card Mug from World Market there is self-brewed kombucha, the candle is a lavender scented candle I poured myself. I just ate some homemade pumpkin banana raisin bread for part of my lunch and I read my cards on a mat I sewed myself. I am wearing a bracelet I made for myself last night.

I find joy and energy (and a form of meditation) from these creative pursuits. It’s why I studied costume design and theatre in college.

So when asking the cards how to be gentle with myself there is the overwhelmingly loud sign to keep being as creative as possible.

1) Where am I with being gentle with myself? Daughter of Wands. Right now I am just at the beginning of understanding how to treat myself gently. I am passionate and stubborn. I often have an optimistic confidence about things that often skews towards naivety. She is also telling me to keep embracing my artistic pursuits, take everything and make it work together.

2) What is my end goal? What does being gentle look like? Six of Wands. Letting your self soar. This card is telling me that there is a limitless potential. Success is coming soon and be ready to embrace it. (This is awfully good news considering I have several applications out for jobs that excite me) Victory is quite literally in the cards.

3)  How do I get to that goal of being more gentle with myself? Three of Wands. This is the second time this card has shown up while doing a reading for the Month of Spreads. It’s a card that pops up quite often for me. It tells me to clarify my goals. Embrace the risks but engage fully with the experiences that are coming my way. Be self reliant and blaze your own trail ( I leave on Saturday for a solo trip to Washington state for an EE conference next week and I’ll also be camping out several nights in various natural settings so I am taking this quite literally)

4) Shadow Card/ Another lens to see the cards through. I have started to include a shadow card on many of my readings just as a wrap up or further commentary. Mother of Wands. This is another of the Wands that pops up for me quite often. I see the whole court of Wands more often than any other type of cards. She is telling me to protect what matters and continue to practice gratitude and grace. The vibrant reds and oranges are full of steady energy. She is telling me that all of the other cards add up together to help me reach my goal of self-care that brought me back to practice after a ten year hiatus. Nothing quite sums up this card for me more than an Auntie Mame quote: “Live!  Life is a banquet and most poor suckers are  starving to death. Live! Live!”
