Forevermore Chapter 23: The Journey
I have been a HUGE slacker about posting chapter updates to Tumblr, even though I have been updating weekly. But, this week you get a tumblr post, because not only is there a new chapter but there is also art from the amazing @vasiliquemort! I've been sitting on this for awhile, because although I commissioned it at the start of the fic, their traveling was a lot more fraught early in the fic, and I knew I could write a scene later on when they were comfortable with each other that better captured the ease and companionship and warmth of this art, and this chapter is it!
Forevermore Chapter 23: The Journey
Excerpt:
When they make camp at the end of the first day of travel, Clint pulls Cage aside and asks him to set up a separate camp for the guards a short distance away.
“Sir, your safety —”
“I have traveled by myself through enemy territory in wartime, Luke. I can manage a few nights in the safety of my own barony and Stark lands, with my husband at my side.”
Cage looks like he is going to protest again but then finally nods, instructing his men to set up camp at the next clearing and to patrol the perimeter.
“What did you tell them?” Bucky asks as Clint returns to where Bucky is laying their fire.
“I said my husband was shy,” Clint says. “And loud,” he cannot resist adding, watching Bucky’s eyes go wide.
“Tell me you did not!” Bucky exclaims, and when Clint’s snicker escapes him Bucky scowls. “You dalcop! I believed you —”
