Okay, rant time.
I did y’all a favour and read a ton of articles about the Spider-Man crap that’s going down, and I will now give you the rundown of what happened. First and foremost: This deal was mostly Disney’s fault. According to public and private sources, Spider-Man could’ve been saved, however, neither company really attempted to negotiate. That being said, Disney wanted to split the money coming from Spider-Man 50/50. Now, if you don’t know, Spider-Man is a huge character. He brings in a significant amount of money, however, Sony owns him. The rights, at least. Whenever an MCU movie is made, Disney gets a bit of money for including him, but Sony gets the majority because they own him. Disney asking for 50% of the money is unfair, however, they refused to budge. Apparently, Sony did offer compromises, but Disney declined.
Now, moving on to information most people are more interested in: Tom Holland. The answer is yes: he is still playing Spider-Man. And Jon Watts in still going to be the director. Just not for the MCU. Sony believes with just Holland and Watts, the franchise can survive. Is that true? Who knows, we have to wait until the movie comes out. However, for now, this is what has been released, and pretty much the most of what you need to know about Spider-Man’s fate.
