EVENTS OF OTHER SOCIETY OCCASIONS HAD A CERTAIN ABOUT THEM THAT STUCK TO THE FORMALITY THAT EVERYONE BORN TO THE STATUS OF THE AREA KEPT TO. Something felt different about the Das birthday party that balanced a line with everything that was expected of behaviors accepted in the setting and an excited charge of a new experience. People were bolder from the fun, it appeared, and coming up asking for dances that were politely declined. One such lady did not break her sight from Nathaniel Bruce and sensing an opportunity, Piet cut ahead and offered the man a reprieve from the future annoyance. “Had I not come over you would be coming up with a polite way of turning that overeager lady down and there is something that comes across as determined that I believe I have saved you from.”

SOMETHING ABOUT FIRE CONTRASTED SO POWERFUL TO THE LIFE THAT PIET HAD LIVED ONLY BY LOCATION ALTHOUGH IT WAS AN ALMOST PERFECT WAY TO DESCRIBE THE TEMPERAMENT THAT HAD DRIVEN DESIRES FOR YEARS. The hot flame, consuming everything could destroy a person or be the instrument of their survival, the juxtaposition lived with as a notorious captain destroying everyone and everything in his path while being the key to survival for all those souls tied by their bond on the crew.  

Those around the bonfire were casting names with tears running down faces to accompany muttered names of, assumedly, those lost. No slip of paper could hold all the names of the lost crew laying at the bottom of the ocean nor could it cover the people whose lives Piet had claimed and loved family members were not known to be dead despite it being the most likely scenario. Instead, a regret was written on the paper in small writing of the language first known to the former pirate that was quickly folded when prying eyes were discovered by a familiar face. “We may have spoken once and I remember it being a favourable exchange although that does not mean that I will forgive wandering eyes looking upon my paper, Mister Bruce. Had I looked upon yours I am certain you would not look on me kindly.”
