So, I've been working on my pedal board. I decided after recording in August that I wanted to build up a collection of pedals I like rather than just using the emulated effects in my Peavey Vypyr. While I like the convenience of emulation (as you can see, I'm working my M-Audio Black Box into the effects chain), I want to be able to customize the basic workhorse effects (distortion and delay, for example) as much as I want. You can see above that I've picked up a few basic effects: a BBE 427 distortion, a Vox 845 Wah, an Electro-Harmonix Memory Boy, and (because it was super cheap) a Danelectro Black Coffee Metal Distortion. I also just recently picked up an MXR Fullbore Metal distortion pedal. The Boss FS-5L controls the overdrive on my new Vox AC30VR amp. I'm currently working on cleaning up the cord and power management, and I'm excited about having a portable and usable board with the sounds I want.
In band news, we're still rehearsing for live shows, although it looks like the show on October 12 isn't going to happen. The album is in the final stages of mixing, and mastering will begin pretty soon. We'll be running up to Austin a couple times to hear it and give input on it before it's finished up. Depending on finances and such, we should have it out by December or possibly the beginning of 2014.
I'll be getting with Ian to see about putting on some more acoustic Internet shows; I really like to see if we can also do a full-band Internet show, but there are some technical limitations that make that harder to do.
Thanks for the support.

Updates...
Hey everyone, just a quick update on Witherwing. We finished tracking the album; Ian went to Austin in mid-August to finish vocals, and now we're in the mixing stage.
Ian has been at LoneStarCon 3 (http://www.lonestarcon3.org/), the 71st World Science Fiction Convention, promoting his book, The Mother of Dawn, and getting to rub shoulders with people in the sf and fantasy world. You can check out his page here for more information: http://ianeve.com/
We also have a show at The Jet Lounge in Houston on October 12; in the meantime, we're trying to book some shows in September, so hopefully we'll have something coming up a bit sooner. We'd like to do another live acoustic show at some point as well.
In the meantime, you can always see us on YouTube at http://www.youtube.com/WitherwingMusic and listen to the demo at http://witherwing.bandcamp.com.
Thanks for the support!

We're heading up to Austin today to start recording Honest Men. I'll be posting pics of us in the studio as we go, but for now, here is my Epiphone Les Paul, named Anduril.

Here is the full video from our Half-Price Books show on 20 July 2013. From left to right you see Matthew Tankersley (bass), Ian Everett (vocals and guitar), and myself, Duane Watson (lead guitar and backup vocals); our percussionist, Sam Fitch, was unable to be there. We played a pretty full setlist, including many tracks from our upcoming album, Honest Men, as well as a couple tracks from the next album (which is already in the planning stages). We also did a cover of "Welcome Home" by Coheed and Cambria, which I'm excited to say was noticed by EMI on YouTube!
It also includes a couple of interludes by "friend of the band" Tony Santi, who recorded the first video for our Indiegogo campaign.
I'm thinking of putting a few of the better tracks up separately, but for now, here we are! We won't be doing another show for a while as we're using the next two weekends to record in Austin. I'll be reporting from the studio the next time you hear from us.

Album News
We made it to $1,066 on our Indiegogo campaign, which means we'll be able to record, mix, and master our first album! We've booked studio time for the first two weekends in August, and depending on how long mixing and mastering takes, we could have a finished product sometime in September.
Instead of booking any shows for the next several weeks, we're rehearsing the album to make sure we don't waste our studio time. Most of the parts have been written for a while, but some of them were primarily written for live performance, and so we're finalizing how we want them to sound on the album. We don't often have extra people at rehearsal, but I'll try to capture some pictures or videos as we go to document the process.
Thanks again for all the support! Look for the Half-Price Books show to be posted on YouTube today.
