So I have to pick a film for my final paper for my history class and I haven't thought about it until now. I have the entire break and I think a week or so after that to come up with a film and write a brief 3 to 4 page proposal, but I don't know what to choose mainly because the final paper has to be 8 to 10 pages...and I don't know how I'm going to write so much about a film unless it's really good and there's a lot of content I can go into (the themes, characters, etc. in the actual movie, the behind-the-scenes stuff that was important, and how the film reflects the time period it was made in and if it's a film about a different era, how it also reflects that time period (and how the time it was made thinks of that era)).

And three people saw my status on Facebook and recommended:

- The Pacific (but it's a mini-series so I can't do this, but LUX, I DON'T KNOW IF YOU'RE READING THIS, BUT I THOUGHT OF YOU IMMEDIATELY. And same with a bunch of other people who I know like The Pacific like Nora and etc)

- Saving Private Ryan (eh. I only saw a small part of it in 8th grade. I don't remember much, but I remember liking this sniper guy and...the beach scene made me nauseous because of the shakiness of the camera or something, but it's WWII! And I LOVE WWII!)

- On the Waterfront - I actually know nothing about this although I've obviously heard of the title. My friend also recommended me a good book about it to use if I end up picking this...quickly glanced at it and it has a bunch of things I like (i.e. mob stuff and union stuff and...okay this looks like it touches upon Irish American stuff and that's one of my favorite parts of NY/U.S. history) and Marlon Brando's in it.

But yeah, I can honestly pick anything I want just as long as I can get it approved and I can write a paper on it. Someone in a previous semester or year picked the Godfather movies lol. 

For some reason, the movies I keep thinking of are all film noir, mob, or war-related lol. And the first movie I thought of was Taxi Driver...? I actually never watched it even though it's been on my to watch list forever, but I'm also mulling over other stuff like Fight Club, L.A Confidential, Goodfellas, etc. 

If you guys have any suggestions, please tell me! I'd love to see what you guys have to say and in any case, even if I don't end up using whatever you suggest, I'm probably going to be interested enough anyway to put it on my to watch list.
