Names
I really love it when people have names that are super easy to translate. I was watching videos about hockey recently and I can't take Alexander Ovechkin seriously because his name means little sheep. I get that it's like someone with the surname lamb in English but even just in hockey there are so many obvious ones. Sergei Bobrovsky (beaver) and Mario Lemieux (The Best) for example lol. My friend from Quebec had a great-grandfather named Dieudonné (God's Gift) and I am in a club with a girl named Princess City-of-Light. I had a roommate with the last name "windowmaker." Like very opaque names in meaning sound more like Names but I love the meanings of names they are so fun and cool and give you a window into people's heritage
Russian names especially, they all mean something so in Russian literature characters will be given crazy names. I remember when I read Dead Souls the peasant characters especially had idiosyncratic meanings, and even one of the noble characters is named Sobakevich (son of a dog if you want to go really literal? correct me if I'm wrong) and even the famous Raskolnikov is named after the Raskolniki, or the Old Believers, who reject reforms to Russian Orthodoxy. But yeah I love names and I love name meanings!!
