Angelus turned his back, closing his eyes as he felt her warm fingertips against his cold skin. “They were clipped,” he said, relaxing beneath her touch. He’d broken the rules, so of course his punishment was severe. At least they hadn’t erased him from existence. They just made him damn mortal, stripping Angelus of everything he knew. “When I told the higher ups that I fell in love with you.” It was the first time he’d spoken the words aloud to her and his eyes remained shut, wary of her reaction.
