WIW Alphabet Challenge - Day 3

CARRY
The day she first visited Aphra hadn’t been merely to ask her to carry on Verin’s work.
CHORD
There is a strange phenomenon that happens when you do magic with large enough stores of energy, and Elaine had quickly learned to love it. Something begins ringing ever so gently in your ears and teeth and bones, almost like tinnitus. A tone somewhere between pure dissonance and a perfect ringing chord. It almost feels holy.
COMPROMISE
After almost an hour of begging, the old woman relented, offering a compromise: she would teach Elaine necromancy every evening in exchange for regular chores to be done in her home before lessons, something that Elaine was all too happy to agree to.
CRITICAL
“You must understand how critical it is that you keep breathing,” Aphra said, more serious than Elaine had ever seen her. “You will feel as though your very soul is being torn, but stopping in the middle of an enchantment like this is a surefire way to guarantee your father loses yet another woman in his life.” Elaine grit her teeth at the comment, but nodded all the same. She understood what would be at stake if she couldn’t do this.
Can you believe I didn’t already have any of these words in my WIP? I even checked my outline for them. Part of why I’m doing this challenge is because I think I tend to get stuck using a selection of like 500 words to write all my sentences forever, so even semi-common words never show up unless I intend for them to. I’m hoping that doing this every day will break me out of that just a little bit! (A good example of this is that yesterday I found the word “burst” SEVEN TIMES in my 3k word document. Why? Because my brain can only fit so many words inside it, I guess!)
