its late n im like.....goddamn....so many of my oc’s are me, like not 100% me but me
sarah is me if i had no inhibitions, no bpd, no rules holding me back, more trust in others, and less fear
christopher is me because of his bpd, his delusions, his paranoia, his self-destructiveness, his self-hatred, and especially his martyr complex
jennifer is me because of her deep-set fear of others, her stubbornness, her discomfort with confronting her thoughts, and her love that she can’t voice
john/jack is me because of his desperate need for orders or advice or help to make sure he won’t screw up, his paralyzing fear of failure and of letting others down
shilo is me because of their belligerence, their tough and brash and confident exterior, their drug use, and their general disgust and/or disinterest in others
escarada is me because of her shyness, her obliviousness, her head in the clouds and outlandish dreams, and her fear that everyone’s going to leave
i put so much of myself into these oc’s - only one of which was initially a self-insert - and i didn’t even realize it until much later
i wanted to quick compile some info about my wizard kids ocs, partially for my benefit but also for anyone who’s interested in my original work. this has been adapted from a fanfic i wrote when i was like 10 years old.
so basically the story revolves around this group of teenagers. it starts with five of them, and they call themselves the royal rascals, which started when some old person yelled that at them and they laughed and then adopted it as their group name. one of them is the princess of their kingdom, then there’s her brother and their three cousins, though they’re not related by blood, because their mother, the queen, was adopted into the family. the group slowly expands over the course of the story.
character summaries:
sarah jalagam is the princess of the kingdom. (nonbinary, she/her.) she’s kind of awful. she’s basically hypermanic 90% of the time, she throws parties all the time and likes playing pranks on the unsuspecting public and basically just causing a lot of chaos all over the place. she’s a budding chemist, she experiments with different substances in a lab she had set up in one of the rooms in the castle that’s way bigger than it needs to be. she knows some magic but doesn’t bother with becoming an expert in it or anything. she’s really social among her own group, but doesn’t like interacting with people outside of her circle. at parties she likes to drink a lot and do stupid crazy shit that her family usually has to bail her out of. underneath this, she has a lot of insecurities about having to run the kingdom when her mother retires, and is very self-conscious about her appearance, always wearing a lot of makeup and putting effort into her looks.
milo jalagam is sarah’s younger brother. (trans boy, he/him). he’s pretty much sarah’s antithesis. where her humor mostly revolves around playing pranks and dumb jokes and physically doing stupid shit, he’s the most deadpan, cynical, snarky person ever. he’s pretty much constantly frustrated with his male company, his cousins, and their macho-ness and the like. he spends most of his time playing video games and screwing around with computers and magic. he likes to smoke pot and watch movies and make “intellectual comments” while he watches movies. (they are not intellectual. he sounds like an idiot.) he’s more into the technological sciences, and he dabbles in hacking, mostly for pranking purposes. he realized he was trans when he was about 10-11 years old.
nora halifax is the oldest of three siblings and the daughter (cis girl, she/her) of the queen’s adoptive brother and his wife, a foreign woman from the high north. on first impressions, she seems to be very demure, bashful, and pleasant, if not a little bossy. but her brothers and cousins know that she’s actually the glue that holds the whole group together. she’s sturdy, steadfast, and while quieter than the others, has a commanding presence. but she’s also very kind and sweet and loving towards them. she’s always trying to get sarah to dress better and act more normal, and eventually sarah starts to listen to her, but for a while it’s pointless. she gets really excited about shopping, traveling, and meeting new people. she likes working with sarah to be in control of operations, and feels more comfortable as the right-hand woman. also she’s constantly making ace puns and all of her humor is terrible.
silas halifax jr is the younger twin (demiboy, he/him) in the family, and hates his older sibling making fun of him for it. silas is really loud and funny and rambunctious and he likes playing “boyish” video games and running around and doing crazy shit. he gets along with sarah the best out of the boys. he’s a big eater and always eats more than everybody else, and has a stocky figure like his dad. he’s up for almost anything, but occasionally will take a rain check and/or hold his twin back from doing something stupid. he likes big social events, but can only do them once a week or so. he also really likes to talk about just about anything and can go on and on about tons of stuff, much to milo’s chagrin, as he’s usually the one he goes to. he swears a lot, but not as much as sarah. he’s usually in charge of pumping people up when everyone’s less than enthusiastic. like nora, he likes meeting new people. he also likes sports and being active, but can usually only rope his twin into it.
marcus halifax is the older twin (agender, ne/nem) and is constantly teasing nirs younger brother for being the younger twin. ne’s similar to silas in a lot of ways, mainly in their “boyish” hobbies of sports and certain video games and doing stupid shit. while silas is usually more impulsive, marcus has little to no common sense, and will sometimes get them into trouble by being an idiot. ne’s more social than silas in general and drinks just as much as sarah at parties, though ne and nir brother also bond over smoking pot, which just makes them very chill. ne’s also less talkative than silas, but still always ready for a conversation. ne and nir brother are constantly teasing each other and being idiots together and always have fun together. they very rarely have real fights. ne tends to get along with nora better, but not by much, as she is constantly frustrated by both twins. ne’s always surprised when nir friends come to nem asking for advice, but ne’s surprisingly level headed when it comes to serious situations.
SO THAT’S THE ORIGINALS. Here are some other characters:
koren mainor is the head wizard’s apprentice (cis boy, he/him) who was discovered by accident and taken back to the main city. he suffered from emotional abuse as a kid and frequently ran away from home, using magic to pickpocket and pay to stay in other places. the head wizard discovered his talent when koren tried to pickpocket him, and, after learning about his family, decided to take him on as an apprentice and get him away from them. koren’s magical abilities are extremely well developed because of genetics, wild coincidence, and years of practice. because koren kinda lived out in the sticks, he had a hard time adjusting to city life at first, but liked the anonymity of living in a big city and liked always being able to have food. he bumped into the royal rascals while they were just about to execute a huge prank and ruined it AND got them into trouble, so they were off to a rocky start. after a month, though, he was kind of indoctrinated into the group and now they all love him and treat him like a member of the family. because the head wizard is in the royal family, he might as well be.
koren is a lot like milo in that he’s very deadpan and snarky, but he also gets embarrassed and taken off guard easily, and cannot do compliments, he gets flustered and awkward. while he has a hot temper, he can usually control it and expresses his anger through passive aggression and frustration. he and sarah instantly don’t get along, and still fight all the time after he joins the royal rascals, but eventually this calms down and becomes just playful bickering. he’s not one for causing havoc himself, and is rather nervous about participating in the shit that the others do because he doesn’t want to disappoint the head wizard, but he lets loose more as he grows more comfortable with everybody. he’s also way quieter than the others, and gets along with nora because of their generally orderly personalities.
rian halifax is the son of an estranged member of the royal family (cis boy, he/him) who returns to the city after years of living out in one of the smaller cities up the river in search of work and his family. he’s a few years older than everybody else and is full of confidence and bravado, always showing off to girls and his family. he grew up working on a boatyard when he wasn’t learning magic from his father, and that’s where he ends up working once he gets to the big city. he turns down the queen’s offer to live in the royal palace and instead rents a one bedroom apartment near the dock. the younger kids think he’s awesome and love hanging out with him, and he gets very protective of them once he gets to know them. he’s a bit awkward around the rest of his estranged family, considering his father committed an act of betrayal, but they know he’s just an honest kid trying to make a living for himself, and they don’t blame him for what his father did. he also has a knack for showing up at inconvenient times to bad situations. but he’s also just naturally funny and that gets him out of a lot of things.
septimus halifax is the head wizard (trans man, he/him) and has been ever since he was 28 years old. he’s part of the royal family and spends time with them when he isn’t holed up in his room taking care of business. he basically adopts koren after taking him on as an apprentice, being a teacher and a guide and a bit of a father figure. when they aren’t working together, they’ll watch tv or play video games and septimus lets koren hang out with his friends whenever he’s not busy. the other RRs see him as one of their “cool uncles.”
jenna jalagam is the queen of the kingdom (cis woman, she/her), married to her husband booker jalagam. she has a very calm demeanor, in sharp contrast to her daughter, but still likes to have fun, and often will have very distinguished palace balls or get togethers to which the kids are only invited to if they promise not to dick around. because her mother died in childbirth, she has ruled the kingdom since she became an adult at 18 years old. prior to that, the kingdom was run by royal advisors.
but what the fuck do wizard kids do until they are 11? Like even if they aret muggles they should still have a basic understanding of how science works? And about their bodies and reading?
