The dreaded law midterm has passed, which means more time for whatever this is.

The futur is uncertain. It is always changing, impossible to predict. Or at least, that is what most people think. For Evelyn, the futur is something she is most familiar with. But there was no way in hell she could have predicted this.
She took this job as Nevermore's new outcast history professor in the hopes of trading a life full of danger and precariousness for one simpler, quieter existence. But of course, simplicity had never been her strong suit. Mysteries, oddities and an unexpected meeting were on the menu for Evelyn Rostand, who could not have landed farther from the slow quiet life she desperately wanted.
In the eye of the storm, she will find her oasis

The woman at the piano, the one who had plagued her mind recently, Isadora Capri. She was beginning to understand the strange pull she had felt when Larissa Weems had called her. How the word yes had slid from her lips before she was even done listening to the shapeshifter’s proposal.
She got up slowly, still weak from it all and opened the door to see a tall man holding an old doctor’s briefcase. « Can I help you? »
« I should be the one asking that. » he said, sending her a warm smile, « I’m David Young, the school's nurse practitioner. » he said.
Evelyn blinked slowly, unsure as to how he had learned that she might be in need of medical assistance. « Oh, Isadora came to see me after she brought you back, made me promise to let you sleep before checking up on you. » He explained, as if he had heard her thoughts.
« I did. » He added before Evelyn could even open her mouth. « I can hear people’s minds, when they are opened or loud enough. » he said sheepishly, with an air of guilt surrounding him.
« Ah, must be convenient in your line of work. » She said, letting him in while using the little strength she had to block off her mind from his prying eyes.
« I’m not the biggest fan of violating people’s privacy, » he said sadly, « It’s not always easy to control it. »
Evelyn could relate to that. She still had difficulties with her gift, and today was a good example. David opened his briefcase and pulled out his stethoscope and other medical instruments. Evelyn abided to all his demands and answered every question asked by the nurse, carefully avoiding the ones specific to her vision. It was concluded that it was a simple case of exhaustion, and as for the migraine, an unfortunate side effect of a powerful episode. David lingered at the door, taking in the woman before him for the first time since entering her quarters.
“You know, you look oddly familiar.” He said, his eyes narrowing. “You were a student here, about eleven or twelve years ago weren't you?”
“I was yes.”
“I knew I recognized you from somewhere.” He said, his eyes beaming. “ I was two grades above you, I used to see you at the library all the time. » he said excitedly.
« I see some things never change.”He added, motioning to the array of books plastering the majority of her walls.
She smiled, politely signaling him that now wasn’t the best time for reunions. He let out a small laugh, exiting the room but not before peeking back in. “If you need anything, or if you're just looking for company, my office is in the west wing on the first floor.” He said gently before shutting the door behind him.
Evelyn woke up hungry. After all, she had not eaten since the morning of the day before, but the prospect of going down to the staff room for breakfast inspired nothing but dread in the blond. She showered quickly, changed into a white shirt and her brown three piece suit and pulled out a muffin and a yogurt container from her little fridge. She had an hour left before her first class and she intended on spending it reading peacefully in her classroom.
She heard a knock coming from her door frame. When she lifted her eyes from the pages , she was met with the head of music leaning on her door. Her wild red curls framed her beautiful face. She looked almost nervous, holding two mugs in her hands.
Evelyn felt her face heating, partly for the trouble she had caused the day before and simply because of that damn smirk playing on her full lips. Evelyn froze, her breath hitched.
“Good morning Miss Rostand,” She said, her voice still a little raspy from sleep. “ I thought proper introductions were in order.” She said, stepping in the classroom. “I didn’t know if you were a tea or coffee kind of person in the morning so I brought both.” She added, leaving the two mugs on her desk. She stood there for a moment, fidgeting with her rings, while the blond picked up the tea. She motioned for the ginger to take a seat at her desk.
“Thank you Miss Capri, you didn’t need to do that.”
“I wanted to.” She said, her eyes piercing. “And I thought I told you to call me Isadora.”
“Force of habit, you’ll have to excuse me.” Evelyn said, leaning back in her chair, her book long forgotten.
“I’ll remind you as many times as necessary.” She said with a smirk. There was something so hypnotizing about the way the woman seemed to sway between confidence and nervousness. “How are you feeling today?”
“As good as new. I am really sorry for my episode yesterday. It doesn’t usually hit this hard, and I can control it but it seemed I was due to have a dramatic moment.”
“How do they work?” She asked, leaning her elbows on her desk. Evelyn let a nervous giggle escape. “But if you don’t want to talk about it’s ok.” She backtracked rapidly, her eyes widening, worried she might have crossed a line.
“ No it’s ok, I owe you an explanation.” She said, surprising even herself. Evelyn did not open up about her abilities to anyone. In fact very few were aware of her vision process. But for some enigmatic reason, she felt the need for this woman to understand her.
“Usually, they come in quick flashes. A burst of images, usually when I touch something of interest. I can also trigger them by either thinking about the subject or touching something that belongs to them.” She said, taking a sip of her tea. The flavor was immaculate, very floral, very her.
“But on rare occasions, I have these… rather intense ones. I can never pinpoint what triggers them, could be a smell, something I hear, something I see… “ She said, unable to hold Isadora’s gaze.
“They take a lot out of me, and this one, well you witnessed it.” She concluded, skillfully avoiding the contents of said vision.
“I see.” She said, her gaze never leaving Evelyn’s. “Your eye, does it have anything to do with your ability?”
“I assumed it has. When I have a particularly harsh vision, there’s this intense pain, but otherwise, it is just a harmless token of my oddity” She said with a sigh. “When I was a girl, it used to attract the attention of the people around me. I find it easier to go about life unnoticed.”
“I can understand that. Wanting to fade in the mass.” She said with nostalgia present in her voice. “ I hope this is not too forward, but I just wanted to say that your eyes are beautiful.” She added smoothly.
Seeing as their initial subject of conversation had died out, Isadora looked frantically around the room, begging for something to ask about. She was not ready to leave the blond’s classroom. She needed to know more about this mysterious new teacher which had left a distinctive mark in her mind. “What are you reading?”
The professor’s eyes lit up at the question. Evelyn slid the book towards her and started to explain in detail how this book was a masterpiece of metaphors and poetic descriptions, and how transcendent the style of the author was. They spoke of books and music, both sharing what work inspired and moved them.
Isadora was a firm believer that one's music taste told a lot about their character. She learned that the seer’s favorite composer was Yan Tiersen, a pianist praised for his classical influence and use of more modern, experimental techniques. It was oddly fitting for the woman before her. Someone with a sharp mind and a profound curiosity of the past and a hunger for knowledge.
Time flew quickly, and soon enough, students were slowly flooding the corridors, making their way sleepily to their first class of the day. A sharp cough interrupted Isadora’s rant on the complexity of the baroque area in music. She turned around sharply, her curls whipping her in her face, causing a smile to erupt on Evelyn’s face.
Larissa Weems was standing in the doorway in all her regal glory, an eyebrow raised and a perplexed look on her face.
“Miss Capri, don’t you have a class to teach in a few minutes?” In a tone that would make anyone in their right mind cower. Isadora grabbed her mug hastily and left the classroom with a small nod towards the principal.
As soon as the head of music had left the room, principal Weems demeanor completely changed. “You enjoy scaring them don’t you?” Evelyn said with a smile.
“It is a joyous aspect of my stature, yes.” she said, taking a seat where Isadora had been moments before. “My presence this morning should not come as a surprise to you, Evelyn.”
“Word travels fast within these walls."
“It is my duty to know what is going on with my staff.” She said, inspecting the blond’s desk. “And I have a feeling I have more than just your overall well-being to be wary of.”
“If you are referring to the contents of my vision, let me reassure you that it concerns only myself.” Silence followed her statement. Larissa held her gaze, searching for any signs of lies.
Technically, the threat was to her own physical integrity. She had no knowledge of the possible identity of her attacker and she did not know who or what that wolf had to do with all this. As for the presence of the beautiful ginger, she deemed this information privy only to herself.
Still Larissa Weems knew Evelyn well, and she could feel the blond was withholding crucial information. But she was also aware of the fact that Evelyn would come to her when she was ready, or when the situation would be close to the boiling point. She simply hoped she would reach out before that point.
“What was Miss Capri doing in your classroom?” She asked. “This is not a mug from the cafeteria, did she bring you tea?”
Evelyn’s face heated considerably. “She just wanted to see if I was ok…” She said, but stopped her sentence once she saw Larissa’s face. “Don’t start Larissa. It’s just friendliness from one colleague to the other.”
“I am sure.” She said standing from her chair. “ David will be over at lunch, just to check if you are back to normal.” Before she could argue, Larissa lifted her hand, clearly signifying that the discussion was closed.
After she left, her morning sped past, class after class filled with lectures and answering students' queries. Lunch rolled around, and as discussed, David was at her door once again, briefcase in hand and a joyful smile illuminating his boyish features.
The check up was quick and efficient, but his visit lingered for the full duration of lunch. They talked fondly of their time as students and life after graduation. She found the man’s presence warm and comfortable, full of banter and laughter. Before she knew it, students were filtering in and the blond had not even had the time to grab lunch.
The final bell came as the blond’s salvation. She held in her delight until the last student walked out of her class, but as soon as he was gone, her shoulders sagged, and a loud sigh left her lips. She gathered her things in her leather bag and walked out in the quad. The yard was empty with everyone most likely in the cafeteria. The air was cold but the last rays of the sun managed to warm her face. She sat on a bench, facing the forest and closed her eyes. There was a melody, faint, carried by the wind to her ears. It was familiar. In fact she had spoken of this particular piece a few hours ago.
Comptine d’un autre été, l’après-midi. A composition from a classic French movie. This was the melody that had triggered her love of music. The melody was tentative, as if played for the first time. As the song advanced, the notes became more and more assured, and soon the melody was played with so much finesse and emotion it hit the blond right in the chest. She stayed there, as the sun came down in the Nevermore gardens, ignoring her hunger and closing her eyes to better feel the music
