P: Payday & Core Curriculum

Payday! I went ahead and bought WOCN’s Core Curriculum for Wound Management this morning. There are plenty of wound care resources out there, but I decided to use this book as my main source of information for now because it is specific to my profession and is very affordable. I previewed some of the chapters on Amazon, and I feel as though I can benefit from the amount of information and accompanying pictures that go with it. EDIT: It’s arriving in TWO DAYS! Woohoo! 

In a week or two, I’ll be able to speak with WOCN members and representatives who will be presenting at our new RN cohort class. Super excited! The road to certification is still extremely fuzzy for me, so I’m hoping they can help me pave the path toward certification.

Postpartum Ostomy PSA

So this whole momma with an ostomy thing the second time around is going well (knock all the wood - no kinahurra here please!). I have, however, had a major skin flare/yeast infection around my stoma which the WOCN attributes to the hormones. Any ostomommies ever have this problem before?? Any other complications that you faced? Steroid foam/kenalog spray and powder plus daily changes for the time being. Here's hoping this is the biggest of my problems this time around!

Support System

I was recently measured for a hernia support belt. Now I know that may seem a little odd - since I just had hernia repair surgery - but my WOCN suggested that it may be helpful, especially since I don't have a lick of abdominal muscle support (immediate post baby surgery aftermath). Does anyone out there in Tumble-land wear such an accessory? Thoughts? Advice? She recommended a Nu-Hope belt so all thoughts are appreciated!
