i have some big rewrites to keep in mind while reading:

carnelion survives the cactus flame bomb: she had so much potential and i dont feel like being angsty so here shes alive :) she was however still there when the bomb went off, and suffers from chronic pain / reduced lung capacity from severe smoke inhallation.

that whole thing with moon/qibli/winter in book 10 didnt happen. sorry that sucked LOL and i nah sorry didnt happen here. instead moon realizes that winter is right!! her older predatory male friend is a raging racist and she agrees they gotta do something about him.

at the end of book 10 they all decide to work together to help make jade mountain better (not just shoving a bunch of war-ptsd-ridden kids together but actually focusing on therapy, healing, and growth) and individual help for specific students as well. this means they all get to keep hangin out and having fun :D

snowfall in book 14, along with her change in character, also realizes that winter has a much better understanding of the world outside of the ice kingdom. she sends him instead of lynx to pantala with moon and qibli

I'd like to imagine once jade mountain is a more secure and reformed school, they can all be involved in some sort of pyrrhian council that works together to address inter-tribe issues, trade, and alliances.

and heres some info about some of the ships:

moon, qibli, and winter are the first to confess to each other. this would happen either during book 10 or shortly after. i feel like qibli would be immediately down for having a polycule, moon would as well too, but winter would struggle with it a bit. i think that qibli and moon are probably the only people he would trust enough to be in this type of dynamic with.

kinkajou would be really happy to see her friends all happy and stuff, but i feel like she might develop some complicated feelings about moon. her friend that she loves so much.. why does she have a weird, ugly feeling about her being with other people romantically? why is there this weird pit in her stomach when she thinks about moon leaving her... she'd eventually confront these feelings, and confront moon. the two of them eventually decide to be together as well, but separate from that of her polycule with winter and qibli.

acespec turtle makes me so sooo happy. hes in a sweet queer platonic partnership with moon where they get to do introvert activities together while qibli winter and kinkajou can go be loud elsewhere.

and also explaining all the "complicated" ones:

winter and kinkajou - kinkajou likes winter, but is also kinda bad at expressing this. she often does it by criticizing how winter treats moon, and comparing it with how good she is with her. this results in lots of bickering. winter still has a lot of unlearning to do about how he was raised to both treat and think of other tribes. hes so used to looking down on rainwings, he can be a real ass to kinkajou sometimes. but at the same time, he's also intimidated by her because she's so witty, liked by others, and pretty. when he says stupid things she isnt afraid to correct him, and challenge him on this. idk theyre both figuring it out

kinjajou and turtle - trying to navigate what they are... turtle isnt really sure if he likes her in romantic terms, or if he just really wants to be close friends. kinkajou is here for him, but she isn't really sure if she likes him more than a friend either. having friends can be hard.

carnelian and moon - moon is the person who warned carnelian. shes the one who's reached out towards her, tried to bring her into her world, and now she's the one helping her through adjusting to her new life. moon is so patient, soft spoken, and kind towards her, kind in a way that skywings just aren't. carnelian is deep in denial about having a crush on moon, and is trying to process this.
