I find it super interesting how many tribes have been confirmed to believe in reincarnation. SkyWings and MudWings (books 8 and 16 respectively), and if I remember right, Kinkajou mentions it in passing once.

There's a really good video on the topic but I can't find it...

Anyways Peril explains specifically that SkyWings let their dead rest somewhere high up so they're reincarnated as a SkyWing in their next life.

Kestrel knew that her dragonets probably wouldn't be given that treatment, because 1. Scarlet and 2. Fireless/firescales. So Kestrel, who was unaware both of her dragonets survived and only ever found one of them, probably thought they could have been reincarnated as a lesser tribe. Maybe even as something non-dragon entirely!

This could add onto her dislike of non-skywings, and also her reluctant acceptance of them, in the off chance she finds her reincarnated dragonets.

What if she hadn't lost them, though?

I think, had Peril and Sky been raised by Kestrel, Peril would be a bit like Flame, and Sky might be a bit like Swordtail.

I like to imagine Kestrel would've been a decently good mother, if it weren't for the incident. She'd still be a bit aloof but she'd care for her dragonets a lot. Maybe she'd still join the Talons of Peace, but this time so that Scarlet couldn't find the twins.

Anyways this yap is going nowhere so I'm gonna leave it at that.

My Clay headcanon designnnn 😛😛 notes under cut! Going to do all the mainline protags and then maybe open up requests,,,

Notes:

- I really really wanted to incorporate a red accent color into his design because... Y'know,, he's born from a blood red egg and all. I played around with where I wanted to put it, and settled with it on the edges of his wings and in his eyes.

- the splotchy patterns is something he shares in common with his family! So my headcanon designs for Umber and Sora and whoever else he's related to will all have similar patterns.

- made him generally big and round, with a thicker neck and legs than what I usually do.

-he keeps his scarred leg off the ground, and he doesn't have full mobility of it anymore because of the damage done to it.

#1 - Smaug

Smaugust 2026

Just a quick one, to get things started at last. So here is Scarlet, showing off her latest fashion acquisition. Why Scarlet? Because she is the closest analogue to Smaug this series has (that I'm aware of).

I'm not entirely happy with it; it is fairly basic and feels rushed. But I didn't want to delay things even further by sitting on it and wallowing in self-doubt, so here it is.

There is a bit of a silly story behind this one. I remember reading the graphic novel and coming across this panel in the first one, where Scarlet confronts the guardians and DoD at their cave hideout.

I've always thought she looked kind of funny here. Like she's a thug who really wants to show off the back print of her jacket. She's so happy about it too, look at her. So I wanted to draw her doing just that.
