One of my favorite genres of interaction is someone making an uneducated point in order to be bigoted to someone only for them to immediately refute it with very well articulated knowledge on the subject. Because eventually you get hit with the same nonsense so many times you have the statistics to deal with it in your back pocket at all times.

I feel like tumblr may like to know this but I went to preschool at a Methodist church when I was little (missed cutoff date for kindergarten so I was there an extra year too) It was incredibly chill and over the summer I would also go to vacation Bible school and (as I got older) the church’s summer camp. Other than Bible school it wasn’t super religion-orientated and the staff there was absolutely fantastic and I miss them every day.

But one guy that stood out was Mr. Mike. He was actually one of two Mr. Mikes, and this guy looked wild.

He was a massive, buff white dude who towered over us. His head was shaven and what we could see of his body was COVERED in sick tattoos. He was pretty quiet and we didn’t see him too often. He kind of lurked in the back out of sight most of the time.

And he was our preschool’s chef and was SO FUCKING INCREDIBLE. I haven’t had a sloppy Joe since I’ve been there and even then I fear it could never live up to his craft. Every day this massive guy would work in the back kitchen while we played and create meals that would make us cheer every time. Breakfast and lunch and snacks and everything. I didn’t even realize until my parents pointed it out just how cool that was. Definition of a gentle giant and I hope he’s doing well. Miss you Mr. Mike. He might have been the only person working back there, I’m not quite sure.
