I imagine that the wolf twins have this cool dynamic going where Vilkas, despite being the smaller and less physically robust twin is the more externally oriented one. Like he was born first, he’s the fiery one, the “smart” one and he does all the interfacing with the world and the other Companions and just is generally more comfortable in the world. Farkas was born second, he’s bigger, the brawn to Vilkas’s brains, but he’s NOT stupid even though he gives that impression. He’s just significantly more introverted, he’s fine with letting Villas take the lead in external matters because that’s what has worked for them since before they were even born. He’s not as intellectual as his brother, but he has a lot more emotional intelligence, he’s intuitive, calmer and more sympathetic/empathic than his brother. He doesn’t talk much because he often doesn’t NEED to, since Vilkas and he have the twin telepathy (not literally) thing going and Vilkas can often speak for him. He actually isn’t even all that comfortable using speech because he went most of his young life with just this sort of non-verbal understanding between him and his brother and was able to depend on Vilkas to be the mouthpiece for both of them. This is why when he does talk it’s very simple and direct and can come off as stilted and slow, he’s just not very good at articulating things. It’s not that he’s led around and directed by Vilkas, it’s that they are just so connected that they don’t always feel like different people, so often their decisions/opinions coincide anyway. Often Farkas is sort of grounding for Vilkas and in turn Vilkas can push Farkas into action where he would otherwise get stuck.
