dermatophagia needs more awareness. my fingers are bleeding bc ive been picking and chewing on them so much. sometimes i pick and chew so much skin off my thumbs that i can barely even pick things up because it hurts too bad--yesterday at school I almost couldn't hold a pencil to write with. sometimes blood smears onto my palms and papers and clothes bc ive picked and chewed so much. and it hurts. it hurts so much but i can't fucking stop.

dermatophagia is such an ugly disorder and people NEED to talk about it so it gets taken more seriously. ive been told "it's just a habit, knock it off" so many times i could rip my hair out.

Dermatophagia

I know this isn’t BFRB week, but I thought I’d share something a little deep today with you guys about dermatophagia, a BFRB ( Body-focused repetitive behavior). Sorry this isn’t sims-focused <3

Ever since I was a little girl, I have struggled with dermatophagia. Dermatophagia is a psychological condition, in which the person who has this disorder picks or chews or gnaws at their skin, mostly around the fingers. Dermatophagia is honestly kind of new to doctors, but it really does affect you.

It affects me in many different ways. Growing up as a little girl, my parents often told me that nobody would like me, or want to marry me or hold my hand because of them. I frequently got told that my hands felt like leather (even though they don’t; I use moisturizer a lot of the time nowadays). I frequently got told bad things, and had pictures of raw hands hung in my room. It was emotionally scarring to be told I wasn’t “normal.” The problem is, I would try and stop but I just couldn’t. My brain was wired in a certain way.

One day, I went to Disneyworld when I was about 10 years old. Since I was an “adult” under Disney terms, I had to provide a fingerprint from my thumb. My parents were VERY angry to find that I no longer had my fingerprint on my thumb. Dermatophagia had ruined my fingerprint on my thumb.

Dermatophagia affects about 3% of the population - but that 3% does suffer. If you see someone with dermatophagia, try not to bring them down; instead, try and uplift them. They struggle, and they are human beings just like you. Having dermatophagia doesn’t mean you aren’t normal. You are a perfectly fine human individual with problems, and you were born with a disorder - so what? You can’t control that.

Stay you boo. Remember to stay healthy. Try and uplift anyone around with a BFRB and let’s spread some positivity this week. <3

Remus x Deceit Headcanons:

Remus has a weapon collection: just multiple weapons grouped by their type.

Knife collection, sword collection, hammer collection..

He's very good at knife tricks and he loves doing them: the light hitting the metal and the movements calm him. The risk of cutting himself is right up his alley.

Deceit loves watching Remus perform knife tricks. The fact that Remus can do it blindfolded with two knives without cutting himself is so badass.

Before the two of them started dating, Remus just thought the tricks calmed Deceit the way it calms him: so he performs whenever Deceit asked.

Once he found out that Deceit just thought he looked badass doing it, he only goes out of his way to impress Deceit further.

That being said, Deceit is still self-peservation. Whenever Remus decides to do his knife tricks, Deceit makes sure there's a med kit nearby.

Remus finds it heartwarming whenever Deceit carefully bandages & cleans his cuts: willingly leaving little kisses on his fingers, palms, wrists, arms and knuckles.

On their first anniversary, Remus decorated one of his knives with small snakes made out of green & yellow gems on the handel: giving it to Deceit.

It eventually becomes tradition. Every year, Remus decorates one of his knives in increasingly ridiculous ways before giving them to Deceit.

Deceit keeps them all: slowly making up his own knife collection.

Deceit actually makes a game out of guessing what Remus decides to decorate the knives with or how.

Deceit loves tummy kisses; they leave him all giggly and wiggly.

Remus is a wolf biter. His animal thing is an octopus: octopus' eat their own arms when they're stressed.

Remus' knife tricks always unsettle Virgil: which in turn, stresses out Remus.

Many times, Deceit has came across Remus biting and tearing into his own flesh: often having to pin Remus down until he calms down enough for Deceit to treat his wounds.

Me: Yeah, they seem to be fine...

Brain: There is tiny imperfection right there.

Me: Hm... No, I don't see it.

Brain: Yes, there is. Look closer.

Me: Er... Okay, maybe there... But it's not that big.

Brain: Fix it.

Me: It's just a tiny imperfection...

Brain: Fix it now. With your teeth.
