The memory of that day ran through his head casually in a way that made his heart ache the same way it had before. He didn’t have the energy to tell Deku off. He was numb as though he had truly just come off the heels of crying.

That day, Katsuki had ended up explaining everything to his mother. Their pride over not wanting their parents help with the bullies had finally boiled over in a way they couldn’t keep running from anymore, and they both got in trouble for lying for so long. For the next couple of months before school started, and while Izuku recovered, they stayed inside.

It was a blur, but Katsuki just remembered the feeling of being on edge.

Even when all was said and done, from then on he felt the need to monitor Izuku for any sudden movements.
