“You’re doing it the wrong way, James,” Remus tutted from where he was sitting on their bed.
James huffed, looking over the top of his glasses as his fingers fumbled with the knot of the tie. “I am not!”
“Let me do it,” Sirius said, pushing James out of the way.
“Like you know how to tie a tie,” James rolled his eyes.
“You never did yours in school, you always made one of us do it,” James jerked his thumb between himself and Remus. “Until the third year when you simply stopped wearing one.”
“Guys, I can tie my own tie,” Harry huffed, fiddling with his sleeves.
“Harry? Are you in here?”
“Back here!” Harry called and his best friend walked into the room.
“Erm, could one of you help me with this?” Ron asked quietly, pointing at the frilly lace on the collar and sleeves of his dress robes.
“Sure, Ron. You don’t like maroon either, do you?” James asked, pulling his wand out of his pocket.
“Not particularly,” Ron grimaced, pulling at the collar uncomfortably. James waved his wand in a rather dramatic flourish, and Ron’s dress robes transformed to look strikingly similar to Harry’s, though they were deep navy instead of bottle green.
“Wow. Thanks, Professor,” Ron smiled broadly.
“I think we’ve told you before Ron, you don’t have to call any of us Professor when it’s just you and Harry,” Sirius chortled, giving up on the tie.
“Habits, I guess,” Ron mumbled, a faint blush crossed his cheeks as he took in Harry’s appearance. “You look great.”
Harry ran a hand through his hair in a very James-like motion, “Yeah, you too. Should we go? Mione’s probably waiting for us.”
“Have fun! We’ll see you there!” James said brightly as they made to leave the room.
Harry pulled a face as he glanced back at his dads, “Can you guys uh… Not be so…”
“So what?” James and Sirius asked in tandem as Remus chuckled.
“I’ll attempt to keep them from embarrassing you,” Remus said quietly as he stood up, looping an arm around each of his husband’s waists.
“Thanks, Da,” Harry responded quietly before throwing his arm around Ron’s shoulders and dragging him out of the room.
“Do you think-?” Sirius whispered and Remus nodded, turning to smile at him.
James looked at them curiously, “Think what?”
“Oh, nothing Jamie-boy. Unobservant as ever, my love,” Sirius laughed, placing a quick kiss on James’ lips before grabbing his wand off his desk and roving it over his glittering black dress robes to straighten any wrinkles.
“Unobservant about what?” James asked, looking at Remus in confusion.
Remus kissed James on the forehead before heading out of their bedroom, “Nothing babe, should we go? We have a Yule Ball to chaperone after all.”
sorry this was late, and short, and for taking a pause in the Christmas with the Blacks mini series 😭
