“Sirius?”
Remus’s concerned voice snapped Sirius back to reality as he stood, trembling slightly, in the stiflingly hot broom closet, trying to hide from his emotions.
He was doing a piss-poor job of it, of course. “Yeah?” he called back in a faux-cheerful tone, his voice betraying him by cracking at the end.
“Let me in?”
Giving up on avoiding this conversation, Sirius cracked open the door, allowing both his boyfriend and a gust of cool air into his space, the proximity to Remus and fresh oxygen making him shiver. The beads of sweat on his back began to slow as he focused on the task at hand. “Hey,” he mumbled uselessly, looking at the ground. “I freaked out.”
Remus chuckled, pulling the door closed behind him so they were truly alone. “I know.”
“I don’t know how to do this.” “Which part?”
“...dating. Being in love with my best friend. Not freaking out when you touch me,” Sirius whispered, eyes still cast downward.
But Remus, for some reason, seemed steady. “You do what feels right. And nothing else. You don’t want me to touch you? I won't."
That seemed cruelly simple. “But I do,” Sirius chuckled humorlessly. “Like, so bloody much. S’just,” he gestured to his chest, which was covered by both a binder and a loose t-shirt. “Dunno if you’ve noticed…s’a bit of a scary situation over here, and–”
“Pads, I’ve been living with you for years. I know what you look like. I love you, how you are now. I’m not going to touch you and bloody…run away screaming when I find something I already know’s there,” Remus replied, grinning when Sirius let out a genuine laugh. “M’not saying you have to let me do anything. M’just saying…like it or not, I know you. So…bloody accept it, alright?”
Sirius snorted again. “Alright.” But he felt substantially better. After a moment, he tentatively laid his head on Remus’s chest, smiling. “Does this mean I can use the same argument when you get all worried about how the Wolf might affect m–”
“Shut up, Sirius.”
Now both of them were smiling like idiots.
