At long last I finally revive Steps of the Survivor from the grave! Sorry it’s been so long since I’ve posted a chapter, scheduling a time with my coauthor and finding motivation to write this one was not my friend
My deepest apologies for not publishing a chapter since literally April, and thank all of you who decided to stick with me and wait for this chapter and sticking around. My coauthor and I appreciate you all!
So I heard it’s a certain ginger-haired grandpa’s birthday! Merry birthday to Gingie! @pipesflowforeverandever
Below the cut is a short drabble I decided to write for this special occasion

(This was definitely a fun chapter to write! Apologies for such a long wait between this chapter and the last one, shout-out to my lovely coauthor for joining me for a few hours tonight to wrap this all up. The end especially was both fun and nerve wracking to write)
December 28th, 2008, the day Jade made history as the first survivor of the Trials.
Though I’m fairly sure this isn’t exactly how it happened at the end of Five Trials, this was inspired by the end of my favorite horror movie, The Ritual. (So is the writing below, in a way).
Below the cut is some writing in the future, dated on December 28th, 2009.

(This chapter took me a while, but here we are at last! Hopefully the next one won’t take me so long)
“Why…why are you holding your stomach? Is that blood?!” Possibly something with Jade, but you can do whoever
Tumblr user Ab-Arts prepare for some writing~!
(This takes place in a slightly altered Trial Three)
Jade stumbled back to the studio’s elevator in the midst of Trial Three, her wolf friend opening the door and allowing her in before closing it again to protect the duo from any enemies that may approach. She wasn't doing so hot, holding her left hand over her stomach and her weapon in her right.
Boris turned to get a look at his friend, who leaned against a wall of the lift, panting heavily. It seemed that she had been found and chased again, but she was alive. That’s a good sign, but her condition also wasn't such a great beacon. He noticed some odd stains below her arm, much like the ones on her face and her right shoulder. Blood.
“Are you okay? Why are you holding your stomach like that? Is that blood?” He signed quickly in his concern.
Jade replied with a soft smile. “It’s nothing too serious, don’t worry Boris. I’ll be fine to get us through this Trial. I just need a moment to breathe.”
“Let me see,” the wolf insisted, approaching her with lowered ears.
Jade tried to wave him off. “No, I promise, it’s fine,” but this wasn't so convincing, as she seemed a little nervous about his advances.
The truth was soon revealed, as he moved her arm to see the damage dealt to his friend. The side of her arm that she used to conceal the new wound was essentially soaked in blood, and the injury itself looked serious, like the Ink Demon had gotten her badly. It looked fairly deep, and it was a wonder that she had the strength to get there.
Jade hissed in pain as the wolf’s ears went completely flat. That looked serious! Very serious!
“We need to go back to the safehouse, I’ve got more bandages there!”
“Alice probably won’t let us. She’s keen on these errands getting done as soon as possible,” Jade replied calmly.
“Then I’ll do them, you need rest. Especially with an injury like that!”
“Boris, no! Sure, being quiet for you might come easy, but he’ll still find you. Other enemies will still-” she was cut off by a dark aura flooding the room, the familiar demon revealing himself to the duo. Boris quaked in his spot in the lift, his frame shrinking back. Jade winced a bit as her heart picked up pace, and she waited calmly, quietly for the demon to leave.
Once he was gone, Jade looked at the wolf. “I’m not letting you go out there. I’m sorry, but you wouldn’t survive. Don’t worry, I can handle this.” She shook her head for a moment as she stepped by the wolf, opened the door and began her trek out.
Boris didn’t know whether to intervene or not, but he couldn’t think of any further points to stop her, so he let her go.

She didn’t come back.
