what’s a race specific headcanon/quirk do you have for your wol/oc?

Au Ra nails naturally grow into sturdy, pointed claws if left long. Finch keeps his filed down to normal fingernail length because he grew up being taught that it’s more practical/polite to not have tiny knives on your hands (probably a common practice, especially for Raen).

For Auri Wols/Ocs, do you have any headcanon Auri lore about your beloved lizard, or Au Ra in general? Tell me all about it. Tails, scales, horns, sheds. What are your hcs about Auri communities? Lizard babies? I need to know!

(I pull out an enormous binder and spill half of its contents on the floor) Yeah maybe

The main one is that I am a true “Au Ra are related to dragons actually” believer, but I also imagine the connection to be distant enough that they’ve pretty much become their own thing

Additional headcanons:

They they naturally have fangs (in a variety of configurations) and claws (though some cultures/individuals tend to file them down)

They have their own set of beauty standards around scale patterns that non-Au Ra can’t seem to wrap their heads around

Small Au Ra kids often hold their caregiver’s tail instead of their hand (especially convenient when the caregiver in question might be 7+ feet tall)

I imagine them molting like birds rather than shedding like snakes, where whole scales will fall out as the new ones grow in

They can make a few unique sounds, like the kinds of growling and hissing you hear from movie dinosaurs. These aren’t a necessary part of the Steppe Auri language, but can be layered on top of it for extra emphasis/flare (mostly used for rolled r’s, or ‘s’ and ‘kh’ sounds)

Extra non-ear horns are uncommon but definitely not unheard of, and most people consider them a sign of strength/good luck/etc. People also consider them pretty, to the point of developing a whole category of jewelry intended to evoke the look of extra horns

A quick addendum to the horn one is that the legend says the hero Bardam had extra horns. How MANY extra horns depends on how hard the storyteller you’re asking wants to go at the time. The numbers can get pretty ridiculous

Helping someone clean and care for hard-to-reach scales is often used as a casual bonding activity and an opportunity to hang out and gossip (similar vibe to painting someone’s nails)

Oh speaking of scales here’s a Finch-specific one:

Finch’s “birthmark” (the white shape on his forehead) is actually a collection of scales that didn’t quite form right. They’re smaller and don’t have any pigment. Thankfully they don’t bother him, they just look a bit unusual

Question specifically for Dark Knight WoL/OC havers What is their relationship like with Rielle? Sidurgu? Does it change over time?

The simplest way to put it is that they’re family and I have a lot of goddamn feelings about that so if this is incomprehensible I’m sorry

Finch takes on a caretaker role for Rielle very quickly, helping to mentor her in conjury, teaching her cooking and alchemy

It’s not exactly a parent/child relationship and neither of them would call it one, but it is something very closely adjacent to that

By contrast Finch and Sid initially irritate the hell out of each other, and slowly grow closer as they come to understand each other better

Ultimately they’re all people who, for one reason or another, were denied real childhoods and more conventional families. None of them got to experience the normal way of doing this. But they all truly love each other, and they find their own ways to provide that care and support

Question #144: How would you visually and texturally describe what your WOL/OC's hands are like? How do they react if someone were to hold their hands in theirs?

Finch’s hands are slightly calloused and covered in nicks and scars, but still clean and clearly well cared for. His nails have a ridge in the center that hints at the structure of a claw, but he keeps them fastidiously filed down

If you hold his hand he will hold yours back!

Eir’s hands are also calloused and scarred, but more likely to be rough and have dirt or soot under the nails. If you’ve got a good eye she’s also clearly got a musician’s hands, with very short nails and a particular pattern of callouses

How she reacts to someone taking her hand depends on the person or the situation, but in general she isn’t much of a fan

Palate cleanser #wolqotd , how did your WoL/OC first meet their significant other? What was their first impression of them? If your WoL is ace/single, how about for their best friend instead?

“Significant other” is a loaded term for Finch so instead I will go with “people in his life that I have plans for”

Finch and Rising Night met when they were both 18-19, and both preparing to cross from Gyr Abania into the Shroud. They got so much shared trauma together

Finch and Val aren’t even an item yet but I’m including him because their first meeting cracks me up. They met while doing a hunt bill. They made soup together. Val held Finch at gunpoint and then got carried off by a giant snake. The weather sucked. They had a nice brunch after

Eir and Remeraux first met as kids, when Eir moved to the Brume and temporarily became the resident troublemaker. They snuck into Ishgard’s lower levels and made a horrible racket on an old pipe organ in an abandoned church. To this day people probably still think it was ghosts

thinking about comfort items — does your character have an article of clothing that they feel most at ease in, the sort of shirt or robe that is well-worn, maybe even tattered? or something that take good care of, making sure it never falls apart despite how much they wear it?

Finch has one wearable object he’s owned long enough to get sentimental about it, and it’s the metal horn-like jewelry he was given by a friend/mentor on the Steppe, meant to bestow strength. He sometimes wears it for reassurance, even if it’s old and looks a little out of place

I'm sure answers may get spicy and I am prepared for that, but where is your WoL/OC's favorite place to kiss on their partner? Vice Versa?

Finch/Haurchefant: the palm of Haurchefant’s hand. It started whenever Haurchefant touched Finch’s face to brush his hair aside or put a hand on his cheek, and became a habit

Finch/Rising Night: around Rising’s mouth/jaw/cheek. Finch thinks his beard feels scratchy and nice

Eir hasn’t settled on any favorites yet but she’ll find some eventually I’m sure (and it’ll be a miracle if they are as g-rated as Finch’s picks)

True! Sometimes it’s on purpose (she wants to make the other person flinch), sometimes it’s on accident (dragons place a lot of significance on eyes, so she tends to focus on those first if she’s trying to figure someone out)

Finch: I want to say he has a sweet tooth?

A little bit! I think he tends to crave particular flavors too, like things that are tart and bitter as well as sweet (dark chocolate + orange is a favorite of his)

Eir: Is actively proud of the fact that her hair is just like that when she wakes up in the morning Finch: owns more sets of lingerie than he has occasions to wear them

Eir: true, especially after living with long hair for so long, she’s enjoying looking hot with less maintenance

Finch: god probably true, though mostly in the sense that he owns one or two but keeps forgetting or not bothering to actually put the whole get-up on for other people

Eir: I think it depends on her company, she’ll either refuse to admit that she’s cold or she’ll bitch up and down about it, no in between

Finch: He could do this. He’s too polite to, generally. But he absolutely could. It would not be hard

Eir has mostly grown out of that. Mostly. Usually. Sometimes

You got Finch in one though. I promise it’s mostly because he’s genuinely flexible and easygoing and only a little bit because he is also a perfect doormat who would rather perish than bring it up
