hi frank! hope your day is going swimmingly 💚 it seems like people love to ask you questions these days, and im nothing if not a bandwagoner, so here's mine: what's your biggest hope for the future?
Hmm, this is a tricky question, but I'll say "a future where people are so used to automation that the fears and complaints about it are confined to a small minority, because the overwhelming majority can see the benefits on their own."
This is just a best-case (and most-optimistic) scenario I can think of. I don't actually think it's likely, as there are so many more people who lose out from automation than those who benefit from it, and few of the people who lose out are really going to change their minds when the inevitable automation arrives.
the way Sleeping at Last said:
“Like a final puzzle piece It all makes perfect sense to me The heaviness that I hold in my heart belongs to gravity”
in the song “Pluto”, but then said:
“Wage war on gravity There's so much Worth fighting for You'll see”
in “Nine”, creating a beautiful link between the two songs, esp considering Pluto used to be the 9th planet, anyway rb if you agree
for the username ask meme: jenesaispourquoi! colorfulcuttlefish! professorsparklepants! wonderbound!
Now this is what I’m talking about! Thanks, anon!
jenesaispourquoi: I really admire Sarah’s willingness to share so much of herself with other people. It seems like she’s always in the middle of things – collaborating, meeting, working, with others. I’m friends with her on Snapchat? So many cute cat pictures, and almost always a song recommendation of the day. She doesn’t seem to care whether or not others like or understand what she’s posting about, and I mean that in a good way – it means we get a lot of different stuff, stuff that’s uniquely Sarah.
colorfulcuttlefish: Cuddles – as she is known here – possesses more energy than I suspect I ever will, and most of it is creative. Did you all know she knits, bakes, plays board games, and does roller derby in her free time? I wish I were that cool, especially as regards the roller derby. She also possesses the personal drive and determination of an avalanche; she is one of my role models on how to kick adulthood’s ass. Generally speaking, I admire and am in awe of her. Finally, she has a super cute cat.
professorsparklepants: SO MUCH FASCINATING META. So many neat mini-fanfics and headcanons. So much – I typed this twice without realizing it, just because of how much I mean it – so much good meta!!! I am particularly Alive for her Lord of the Rings stuff, as one might imagine, but all of it is so good. I don’t know where they find it all or how they create it all as the case may be, but I am so grateful that they collate it all in one place so neatly. And has anything ever been as iconic as her #dtmc business? I think not.
wonderbound: Claudia is one of the Place People, perhaps the epitome of the Place People, as I now have to think of those of us who – for better or for worse – stand buried up to their knees in the soil of one particular beloved territory. Her love for Vancouver is familiar to me. It feels like solidarity. I really enjoy her occasional analytical turn of mind; she has a tendency to ask questions I’ve never thought of but that fascinate me nonetheless, and I always enjoy having my mind opened by talking with or listening to her.
15, 19, 27, 31 for the ace questions :D
15. Favorite thing about being asexual?
It’s put me safely on the outskirts of most of the drama in my life. In the grand scheme of things, I have very rarely been romantically jealous of someone, because the number of people I’ve been interested in is proportionately pretty darn low, so usually I look at the issue like “I have no idea why y’all are fighting over this person, they’re really treating y’all poorly. Oh, because they’re attractive? Huh.” So this means I haven’t really lost too many friends over these issues. (Plenty of other times I’ve lost friends, I don’t need another one)
19. Animal or human companion? If so, what kind or who?
I want an elephant. If an elephant is impractical, then a talking cat. Or a dragon. A water dragon. I do love human companions but I’m not about to turn down the chance at a DRAGON. And having a baby elephant sit on me is on my bucket list.
27. Favorite romantic song turned platonic in your head?
Ooh, this is a really interesting question! First one that comes to mind is “500 Miles”. It’s never really explicit about the romance but I know that’s what we’re SUPPOSED to get out of it, but that’s just about the amount of dedication I want to and do put into my relationships.
I do like romantic songs though. I’m a romantic person.
31. You are awesome.
Aww, thank you! I hadn’t noticed this question was there before so this really put a smile on my face. :)

This has happened before – the troupe goes out, those who mention it looking better elsewhere get the whole group sent to ‘reeducation’ 'camps’, rinse, repeat.

I read an article recently that said they were almost brainwashed they were so loyal. at one point they were driving through SK in a bus and they all started screaming and pointing and demanding the bus be stopped cause they drove by a poster criticising (or possibly just depicting???) Kim Jong Un. that plus the knowledge that their family would pay dearly if they tried to run makes me think they never would.
Yeah, this is what I suspect, that they wouldn’t have been picked unless they were utterly loyal, but statistically at least one of them must be looking around and wondering what the hell (she won’t do anything, but it must be very weird to experience. Like, holy cognitive dissonance Batman). I also wonder about the athletes, because apparently the NK pairs skaters trained for a while in Montreal, which must have seemed like an alien planet
Mostly I think it’s because the stories I’ve read have all sort of taken the view of “those wacky North Korean cheerleaders!” without going deeper into it.
I only got three hours of sleep last night, so this all may or may not make sense.

!! I'm also a huge fan of Alan cumming, definitely gonna check this book out. I love seeing all your media logs, there's been some cool finds!
thanks! i sometimes wonder how many people are actually reading them, haha. so it’s nice to get feedback like this! but yeah, the alan cumming book was really powerful. if you’re into audiobooks, he does the reading himself.
