☁ no happy ending; past
“Just to be clear, I’m not marrying you.”
Even with the false pleasantries in her voice, Skylar makes sure to be gentle as she straightens out the bow tie adorning the male’s neck. It’s all part of the show, of course, as their respective parents slide into the seat across from them in a matter of seconds. Both elders look more than happy and it’s clear that they have witnessed the little display of affection exchanged between their children. Skylar already feels like she’s going to be sick but she schools her expression into one of fake excitement and reminds herself inwardly that she only has to survive dinner and then they’ll be off.
“Well, it looks like you two are getting along just fine, I’m assuming you two have exchanged greetings then?” Stopping herself from rolling her eyes at her mother, she plasters a smile on her face and turns to look at her companion like he is the best thing to happen to her so far. Their gazes meet and she’s relieved to find that both of them share the same disgust and reluctance at being in this dinner; it gives Skylar a sense of comfort knowing that she’s not alone in this. Her mother really has the worst social climbing ways and it seems that the old woman has managed to charm another nobleman into agreeing to marry off their children.
Wine is poured in between small talk and the whole pretense of liking each other; the dinner has barely begun and all she wants to do is to get out of here. “Please believe me when I say that it is a truly a pleasure to meet you and your father, Woobin.” She says in between sips of wine, making sure to play the part of the shy yet respectable woman her mother ought her out to be. “My mother has told me so many great things about you.”
