Yo! I'm working on the trio of guardian kids I picked up from your star wars nests and I'm curious how force sensitive children are handled by the empire. I'm trying to set up backgrounds that are friendly to the lore of their home clan (though certainly not expecting the kids to actually be canon to that lore themselves), so any kind of details would help!
Thank you so much for buying them! <3 And sorry it took so long to reply--was going to do it yesterday, but I had to head to bed early for work >.<
The Force is still something new with both the Empire and Loth-Ysalamiri Town. Very few are Force-sensitive, especially in the Town. In Town, only Force and Duran are. But within the Empire, there’s a good handful. Janto is Force sensitive, as is his Inquisitors--Seto, Karashei, and Sep’seba. Eon is unknowingly Force sensitive. And Zhir, who isn’t allied with anyone--only herself--is also Force sensitive.
If a Force sensitive is found, and they’re an adult, the Inquisitor hunt them down. If that person is not willing to serve the Empire, they’re killed. If they’re a child, however, they’re taken in young, as to not rebel against the Empire with their newfound ‘powers.’ If they’re taken in young enough, then the Empire is all that they’ll know, and therefore won’t even think about going elsewhere. However, if the child is old enough to still resist, they’re either hunted down, if their parents try to hide them...or they too will meet and untimely end...
After your latest lore update, I'm curious: In terms of your own head canon, was that transformation sequence considered "normal" for a breed change, or was it more extreme due to the nature of the way it was applied (not to mention the person who made it happen...)?
I was actually gonna write about this!
So okay, in my headcanon, breed changes can go two ways.
Willing: During a willing breed change, a dragon is agreeing in both body, mind, and soul that they want this change. Usually it’s something they have to dwell on for a time, before actually doing the deed. During the transformation, there’s some pain--muscles reforming and bones resetting--but for the most part, it’s tolerable. The spell on the scroll recognizes that the user is willing to go forward with this change, and does what it can to make the pain less. Though depending on one’s pain tolerance, even a willing transformation can be painful, especially going from a smaller to a bigger breed. After the transformation, feeling weak, sore, and even passing out is common. The healers come forward and do what they can to make the newly transformed dragon comfortable.
Unwilling: During an unwilling breed change, things basically go from 0-100 real quick. In a really bad way. The dragon’s mind, body and soul are NOT ready for such a transformation, but the magic inside of the scroll is too powerful to resist. The magic basically forces the dragon to change, and forces hard. All that pain? They feel every single bone snap and reform, ever muscle snap and strengthen, every organ shifting around or even disappearing altogether. They. Feel. Everything. Unwillingly changing a breed is basically living torture. Even though it only lasts up to a minute (depending on what breed is being changed into what), it’s still torture. At the end of the change, there’s a high mortality rate. With all the stress that’s put on the dragon’s body, some don’t make it, and die from the trauma. Some live through it, but they need a lot of bed rest, and close monitoring from healers. Depending on the dragon, the weakness can even last through the rest of their lives...
So, to answer your question, no it wasn’t a normal breed change. Cynfair wasn’t willing to get changed, and Mereda’s Loga familiar forced the scroll onto him, transforming him without his permission. Had he been willing, he would’ve had a much easier time of it. But since he wasn’t...
Enemy at the gates! An organized martial force has, for some reason, decided to march against your clan. Who would lead the defenses? How would said defenses be handled? What would the leadership do if it became clear that the battle was going to be lost? Flee, fight to the last, surrender? And what about if the fight is won - how would the surviving attackers be treated?
If an organized martial force marched against the Windcurrent Clan, Commandant would have a field day.
This is such a wonderful ask, thank you so much!! And sorry this got lengthy–
From day one, Commandant has been urging Khan to form a military to protect the clan, so that what happened with the Shade never happens again. If they had an organized force to protect the clan, they’d be set. But Khan keeps refusing, not wanting others to view the Windcurrent Clan as hostile, because they have a military. Him and his mate, Major, have been trying for a long time to get Khan to finally allow them to create a military…but no dice. However…
The newcomer, Kinosri, also has military ambitions. And unlike Commandant, he’ll force his way, if Khan doesn’t recognize what he could do with a military at his beck and call…
Being that there’s no set military in the Windcurrent Clan, the one that would lead the defenses and organize the attacks would be a combination of both Commandant’s skills (as much as he dislike’s Khan’s pacifist’s views, he’s not going to let anyone just attack the clan), and Yomigami’s.
Yomigami is the second-in-command in the clan, being Khan’s right hand man…erm, dragon. Having proven his loyalty during the Shade attack, he’ll work with Commandant to organize defenses and attacks (despite despising the Pearlcatcher).
The defenses would probably be a combination of the knights, gladiators, and various other dragons that can fight. Which isn’t too many. The Windcurrent clan is a peaceful clan. Other than the attack from the Shade, they’ve rarely had to attack others to protect themselves. Perhaps Commandant’s vision of a military isn’t such a bad one after all…
Khan is still the leader, even if he doesn’t actively fight. If he sees that the battle cannot be won, he will not put any more dragons’ lives at risk. Instead, he’ll call for a ceasefire and arrange for their terms of surrender. But he’ll only do that, if the opposing force is willing to talk over things civilly. If not…they’ll fight to the last. If the clan wins, and they have the surviving attackers, they will be imprisoned, and will only be release if the attacking force is willing to give into some demands. If not, the attacking dragons will remain in captivity until further notice.
This is Khan’s idea, of course. Commandant would rather the attacking forces be made an example of (aka killed/executed), than imprisoned…
∞!

33. What do you typically have for breakfast?
I don’t really eat breakfast. I tend to only have 1 meal a day honestly.
61. Do you sing to yourself?
I mouth the words along with what I’m listening to, or what’s stuck in my head, but never out loud.
73. Do you correct people when they make mistakes?
Sometimes, but not often. I’m usually too worried abt them lashing out at me or getting upset for correcting them lmao
What would Oxiana's song be? BTW I love her, she's amazing! (this is @mirrorseveryday)
hey!!! I actually had to put this one off overnight to think about it and I still don’t even know if I have a song that summarizes her. (I’m so touched that you like Oxiana btw! I don’t blog about her....at all basically, so it’s super cool for her to get some love.)
I ultimately decided to basically give her a short playlist. bc Oxiana is a Complicated Person.
I was so tempted to just put this one in ngl but that would be a little unfair to her. XD
Like, for all that she’s very much the resident aristocrat, Oxiana was raised among dragons that very much subscribed to the superstition that dull-colored dragons are bad luck. They would never do anything like abandon or physically abuse her, they weren’t evil; but she knew how they viewed her, and it’s shaped some of her arrogance.
Oxiana is also, ostensibly by chance, the clanmate a scared hatchling or insecure, uncertain newcomer is most likely to run into. She’s not...a motherly dragon, exactly. But she’s steady and calm and impossible to ruffle, which can sometimes be more reassuring than matronly warmth.
And for her mate, Caspian...his clan bore no such prejudices. In the Icefield, he explains, black and white dragons are good luck. They can blend in and sneak better, even if--and this is where he looks upset and suddenly hesitant--he’s not very good at it.
The first thing Caspian ever said to her was that she was the most beautiful dragon he’d ever seen. For all the jokes about Caspian being a trophy husband, Oxiana genuinely does consider him the most precious thing in her life. She calmly, matter-of-factly refused to hear any self-criticism from him about his inability to keep up with his home clan of semiferal, stealth-focused hunters. You simply weren’t suited for it, darling. You were meant to shine.
