The shepherdess
@sleeping-mutie I watched this little friend cross the sidewalk the other day. Maybe a yellow woolly bear? Located in Indiana.
A fuzzy little cutie!!! It's a tiger moth, just like typical woolly bears are! I think most likely a Virginian tiger moth, Spilosoma virginica. Typical woolly bears are Isabella tiger moths, Pyrrharctia isabella. They look like this:

Isabella Tiger Moth Caterpillar (Pyrrharctia isabella) on the Lynn Valley Trail, April 2019. If you see these Caterpillars (also known as Woolly Bears) this early in the year, they have spent the Winter as Caterpillars in sheltered locations, such as under rocks or in the bark of fallen trees. During the Spring, they'll feed on a variety of plants until they're ready to spin cocoons and transform into Adult Moths. . . . . . . . #nature #ontario #pyrrharctia #pyrrharctiaisabella #woollybear #woollybearcaterpillar #fuzzycaterpillar #caterpillar_daily #nationalwildlifeweek #nationalwildlifeweekcanada #mothsofontario #insects_of_our_world #macrocaterpillar #macro_vision #lynnvalleytrail #blognorfolk (at Lynn Valley Trail) https://www.instagram.com/p/CNVGj03gOb9/?igshid=xm0pq5lyjqh2
I’m so happy I found this,,
Asura lydia or the Lydia Lichen Moth is literally a walking wig. It’s a shame I can’t find many reference photos of this caterpillar online... Maybe it’s rare? I don’t know.
If you’re curious, this ain’t the only living afro in this world, there’s also Asura polyspila. A very similar looking caterpillar. There’s also Pyrrharctia isabella, a more well-known woollybear
spotted tussock moth caterpillar, or a woolly bear. Also poisonous. #Caterpillar #Nature #Hike #wilderness #Solitude #insects #woollybear #plumasnationalforest #yellatnature #angrygestures #poisonous #entomology #fuzzy #wanttotouch #mustnottouch (at Madora Lake) https://www.instagram.com/p/CFE5L27hw2T/?igshid=efkh16icfws
(cw bugs) was on the weekly shop with my mum and walking past some bushes and i saw a smth green dangling from my shirt. i thought it was a spider but it fell down and it was a Caterpillar! very beautiful baby, 10/10 i had to stop for 3 minutes to try and get him onto a leaf to get him off the middle of the sidewalk (he eventually got on). i love their wiggles, and it was such a pretty green - blessed
