Ivan relished the cold breeze as he sat on the steps leading to the gardens. He was onto his third cigarette and as he wrapped his lips around the stick he felt unlikely to stop anytime soon. The first person who had asked him if it was true his family was moving military forces caught him off guard, by the third one he figured something must be up.
It had taken him half a day to get through to his parents and find out what the hell was going on and their answers hadnât exactly been helpful. Of course they said it was ridiculous that they would attempt to go to war over someone who wasnât even in their family anymore, yet they also didnât deny the shifting of troops. Hearing the footsteps behind him he released a plume of smoke, speaking without even turning around. âIf youâre here your ask whether weâre about to be trapped in the middle of a war, I canât give a good enough fucking answer.â
Thank you for an amazing two years of War of Royals. Most rpâs donât stay open for two months, let alone two years. You have made being an admin an absolute joy of a time and iâm forever grateful.
Below is the ending of this roleplay, how iâd like the time in Khatanga to come to an end. This account focuses on the rebels who were hiding within the area and all of their muns weighed in on their finales. Under the cut contains triggers of violence and death. Itâs rather glossed over but warning anyway!
The hostage situation might have felt as though it lasted for an extended period, but it was only a few hours. When the rebels finally put their plan into effect, they did it well. The entire area was shut down, with complete control over the power and internet. As far as they were aware, there was no way for anyone to get word out about what was happening in Khatanga. No phone call or text message would easily get out. The rebels surrounded the partygoers wielding weapons. Each time a guard attempted to stand up, they were easily disarmed, beaten, and thrown back to the sand. Over time, everyone was corralled into a small circle, far easier to control. In addition to handling the guards, anyone who attempted to stand up for themselves and their fellow hostages was quickly taken care of. The rebels made a point not to kill anyone but there were plenty of bruises, slashes, and broken bones among staff members and even some royals.
When the situation seemed to be under control, James Brixton reached out to the Council. It had long ago been decided that once the plan was thrown into action, the Council would decide the exact steps. They had a list of demands and would only reach out to the reigning monarchs with those demands once they were sure that the situation in Khatanga was under control. Everything that had been done in Russia had been done to show the monarchs that despite what they thought, they were not truly safe. More than that, they were not in complete control as they thought. No, the rebels were certainly capable of slipping in even where they thought they were safest. From now on, the monarchs would be forced to question who around them could be trusted.
The demand from the rebels was a simple one for the effort that went into the two-year siege. But it was not about the demands, it was about the message being sent. Throughout the globe, rebels were in holding waiting execution. They were all to be released, given modes of transportation so they could remove themselves safely, and they were not to be followed. Once that was done, the younger royals in Khatanga would be let free. It was an exchange, a way to show the reigning monarchs that the rebels stuck together and truly cared very little about the young royals.
The message was sent by the Council themselves and word was quickly received that the monarchs would work towards meeting those demands. Perhaps the rebels got cocky at that point, believing that the monarchs would never risk their children in the attempts of a rescue mission that could end in disaster. Without worry, the rebels in Khatanga continued to watch over their hostages, only knowing through James that the monarchs had given into their demand.
What no one realized was that the monarchs were willing to risk a rescue mission, knowing that there could be a loss of life. While the Council promised to release their children if they met the demand, they were not sure what was going on in Khatanga. How did they know that their children were not already suffering? Between the rebels and the changes to the technological infrastructure they had made for the social experiment, it was impossible to get a gauge on the current situation. Knowing they were flying without sight; they made the decision to take the risk.
The rescue mission was truly launched by the Russian monarchy as they could move the quickest. Kazakhstan, Mongolia, and China sent in back-up as they were the three countries closest to where Khatanga was in Russia. The rescue team moved swiftly when they finally touched the ground in Russia. First, they swept through the village. There were only fringe rebels there who were quickly silenced and any villagers who had not attended the lake party were taken to safety.
With the help of the darkness, the rescue team was able to sneak through without any of the Khatanga rebels knowing what was coming. Before making it to the lake party itself, they spread throughout the palace, knocking off any straggling rebels and making sure that any staff members of royals inside were safe and sound. Finally, finally, they reached the party, moving swiftly and silently.
The bonfire was kept burning so that the rebels could keep a good eye on their hostages. By the time the rescue team arrived, the royals, staff members, and visiting villagers were sitting in clumps. Some had their hands tied, others had clearly been dealt with physically, and there were a small group of guards who had been silenced indefinitely. Spreading out, the rescue team came up behind the dense line of rebels before they even knew what was coming.
And thatâs the thing about fights. In the moment, they seem to last forever. Weapons fire at astronomically loud decibels, leaving people monetarily hard of hearing and in shock. Fists would fly towards faces and abdomens, each moment feeling like a lifetime. While it felt as though it was going in slow motion the rescue took only a few minutes. Despite their training and their planning, the rebels were no match for those coming to rescue the royals.
To make one final stand, Claire Darby went after a royal, but her attempt was quickly thwarted by Klaus Von Bulow. While the rebel guard did his absolute best to protect a princess from his former rebel friend, a brave Russian soldier approached the woman to take care of her once and for all. However, Oleander Hawthorne stepped in to protect her, leading to the two of them being restrained and pulled away from the scene. Both rebels were forced to join the group being carted away to jail for imprisonment, interrogation, and eventual execution unless the two could figure out how to escape. The two were thoughtful and cunning, they never doubted that they would figure it out. Meanwhile, the rebel that turned his back on his friends to protect a princess had her holding on and clutching to him for safety, refusing to let him go. It was her word that could keep him from being carted away in the same way the others did, her word that he should be by her side, keeping him from the same fate as many of his friends.
The Trulson siblings found themselves at an impasse. Casper Trulson attached himself to his royal best friend, not one for fighting. The fight simply was not in him and when it came down to it, he wasnât interested in fighting for the cause his family put so much into. Therefore, he sided with the royals, knowing that there would be a punishment for keeping his knowledge hidden but also seeing that there would be a light at the end of the tunnel. His sister, however, was different. Solveig Trulson was a hell of a fighter, taking her stand there and then, no matter what her brother did. Like other rebels, she was restrained and pulled off, with her future bleak. Imprisonment, interrogation, and eventual execution was in her future as well. But the blonde, like Claire and Oleander, was a thoughtful and creative woman. Like her friends, she could figure out an escape before being taken to the gallows.
During the hostage struggle, Lilliana Carlisle stood with the rebels, fighting with all of her might. Though she and her dog had presented themselves as friends to the royals, when push came to shove, the woman had made her choice. She would stay with the rebels, come hell or high water. Unlike some of the rebels before her, however, Lilliana preferred to focus on her words, knowing she would find a way to talk herself out of execution. Could life in prison really be that bad? Lea Wolf had originally frozen when the rebels sprung into action, finally realizing that it was time. Not every rebel lived and breathed the mission, some joined up for their own personal vengeance against the royals. What truly ended up saving this rebel was that, like Klaus, she felt the need to do something heroic when push came to shove. Lea stepped up to save a prince, going against the rebel cause to keep him safe in the scuffle. Her actions earned her life in prison without the chance of execution. And Avery Sawyer? She went kicking and screaming, fighting with everything she hand in her. The guard stood by her fellow rebels as opposed to the royals she said she would protect in the short term. She wasnât an easy one to take down but soon enough she was pulled and carted off for imprisonment and whatever the reigning monarchs felt fit best for punishment.
But what really ended the rebel siege in Khatanga was the death of James Brixton. As fiercely as the rest of the rebels fought, none of them compared to their leader. This was his mission and he refused to be taken alive. He worked to take down as many soldiers as he could, fighting as fiercely as he could muster. But James was only human and even he couldnât survive a barrage of bullets. As he went down, so did the morale of the siege.
Over the next few hours, more and more soldiers came into the area, cleaning it out of rebels and bringing all royals to safety. The social experiment in Russia had come to an end, those who participated in it having been changed forever. Whether they be royal, rebel, staff, or villager, the last two years would stand as a change in their lives that would make waves for years to come.
Two weeks. Amir had spent nearly two weeks hold up in his room doing his best to sort out his thoughts. Egyptâs relationship with England hadnât always been the best, but with his love for the country heâd been working to change the perspectives of his countrymen. Now, it seems, from what heâd heard that England was looking to raise tariffs as well as take their trade elsewhere. Heâd also heard Egypt was coming out with a lot of anti-western propaganda and talks for cutting England off entirely. The big question was, which items were the cart and which were the horse and which were a carry-over from a global game of telephone?
Deciding to take a break from it all he headed to the gardens, dawning a hoodie in hopes of not being recognized and stopped in the hall for a conversation about the increasing political strain. Hearing a voice though as he was walking, he couldnât help but look back, assuming the person had been talking to him. It was a short conversation with a maid, thankful she was only asking if it would be an acceptable time to clean his room. He was off again in less than a minute, pulling his hood back on as he spun around, only to notice another person in the hall. âAfternoon,â he greeted, hoping the conversation wouldnât go much past that.Â
For days, notices were placed around the village and the palace. These warnings were printed as newspaper headlines and interrupted television broadcasts. But, despite saying that the area was experiencing increased snowfall and high velocity winds, no one was prepared when a weak slab of snow fractured on the mountains, sending tons of snow flowing down towards the area at a frightening pace.Â
The flow of snow was spotted at a distance, giving people a chance to jump inside a shop if they were on a village street or dash inside of the palace if they were on the grounds. But as snow barreled into the village and palace, it was clear that the avalanche would not be something easily dealt with. Buildings and areas of the palace were instantly damaged, with numerous people now snowed in wherever the sought refuge in the village as snow blocked doors and the power was knocked out.
In the palace the power was knocked out as well, triggering the automatic metal doors to slam shut, trapping people throughout the palace, unable to open the heavy doors.
Everyone is snowed in with limited food, communication, and warmth.

What seemed to last an eternity was less than 48 hours. Rescuers worked as swiftly as possible to clear enough snow and damage to recover everyone who was stuck. By the end of it, all villagers, staff members, and royals were safely corralled in the tea room. Most of the villagers at least. 48 hours after the avalanche, rescuers had a list of 50 missing people. Most were found cold and frightened but safe. Six citizens of Khatanga, however, did not survive the natural disaster. News of the deaths quickly spread through the survivors in the tea room and it ruined any feeling of joy over coming to the end of their tragedy. All were left shaken, upset, and grateful for their lives.
In addition to the lost lives, the avalanche had destroyed certain parts of both the village and castle. Precision Auto Repair, Building Bodies, and Tinkering Trinkets all experienced severe damage and will take weeks to repair. A few residential homes were destroyed as well. A number of rooms in the Western wing of the palace were completely destroyed. If a bedroom was destroyed, the staff member or royal occupying that room lost all of their possessions.
In the wake of the avalanche, there are on-going repair and clean-up operations within the village. Royals and staff members are encouraged to lend a helping hand, bringing the community together in an attempt to return to normalcy.
OOC:
You are welcome to continue all event paras but are now allowed to interact with everyone and have your characters leave their assigned stations. Please know that security around the castle will be more strict and absolutely no royals are allowed off the grounds without a guard present.
Muns who have characters living in the palace can decide whether or not their character lost a room or not. If their room was destroyed, they were simply moved to a new room while everything is being repaired but, keep in mind, they lost almost all of their possessions.
The destroyed village locations are currently out of play but you can always write your character as being there to help with the clean up.
A post will be made from the main page when all locations are repaired and open for use again, as well as when royals and staff members can return to their original rooms.
Thank you for participating in this event and a VERY special thanks to @ofbuchananisms for the idea. Please never hesitate to come to us with ideas!
And just as the whispers had flowed through the palace about issues between England in Egypt, rumors once again began to swirl. This time, it was said that there truly had been no trouble between the countries, just a bored maid who thought it could be fun to stir up some mischief. She had, of course, been dealt with harshly.Â
While the rest of the world went about their daily lives and the children of reigning monarchs were safely hidden away in Russia, those that ruled and decided the fate of the future met quietly in Brussels for a meeting that had long been coming. Their children had been away in Russia for nearly a year, growing comfortable and complacent with the idea of being away from their parents. It was time for a change.
They had long been talking about testing their children. Seeing how their children could get along under pressure and the mounting pressures of conflict. If they were to avoid another war and further bloodshed, their children would need to learn how to figure things out despite pressures from alliances and personal connections.
But what could be done? After much deliberation, the reigning monarchs of Egypt and England stood up to offer their countries for the test. Rumors would be spread throughout the palace and by extension the village, about mounting tensions between Egypt and England. The round table of monarchs didnât even need to agree on what the countries were arguing about as it was, quite frankly, unnecessary. They wouldnât be spreading a single rumor but two. And like a game of telephone, they hoped that the message would mutate as it spread from royal to staff, staff to villager, and villager to royal.
Through word of mouth, half of those in Khatanga would be made to believe that it was Egypt behind the mounting tensions while the other half would believe it was England. Some may think that the issue had to do with migration, others trade, and others still over shared media coverage.
And with the rumors spread, the reigning monarchs would do nothing but sit back and watch.
Welcome to War of Royals first official test. Choose which rumor your character heard. Do they think England is behind the tensions? Do they think Egypt is the issue? What do they think the argument is? Does this influence how they deal with others in the palace? How do their alliances and friendships handle these rumors?Â
Your characters can explore these rumors through self-paras or interactions. The options here, are endless.Â
A Vacation in the Maldives Turned Deadly. WoR Plot Drop.
who: Birdie Gustaf, Crown Princess of Sweden
what: Rebel drug, Love Potion No.9
where: The outdoor pool on Valentineâs Day
The effects of the rebel drug far surpassed anything that they imagined with those who ingested it, but there was the unfortunate casualty. The death of a Crown Princess, Birdie Gustaf, found dead in the outdoor pool. The parents and guardians of the royals in Russia were informed that her death was caused by a drug overdose. The story was fabricated to sound as if she had a long history with drug addiction and it was only now that the lifestyle finally caught up to her. This would ensure the parents do not worry about the safety of their children. And as for the rest of the world? A Vacation in the Maldives Turned Deadly was the translated headline of the local papers. Once again, a story was created that revolved around a drug dependency for Birdie.
With the death of Birdie Gustaf, Sweden became a country without an heir to the crown, which meant they were vulnerable. Not just to the rebellion but to those who sought to take the power of the monarchies for themselves. Upon the passing of the Crown Princess, the King was overthrown with a new family taking their place as the monarchs of Sweden. Many neighboring countries and those with former alliances will not accept this readily, and with the children of Sweden's new monarchy just as much a threat to the rebellion as the Gustaf lineage once was, will they be accepted among the children of the monarchies here in Russia? Only time will tell.
Thank you for participating in WORâs Valentineâs Day event. This marks the end of the event. Birdieâs death was thoroughly covered up and no one except for the heads of staff (NPCs) are aware that Birdie drowned in the pool as a result of what they know wasnât a history of drug usage. The rest of the palace and the village was told that Birdie went home to Sweden directly after the brunch. Headlines about her death were delayed by a few weeks. Nothing could stand in the way of the social experiment that the monarchs had put into place.Â
Birdieâs death in Russia was kept a secret. With the headlines now available, those closest to Birdie may begin to question the validity of history of drug usage but there has been nothing to raise the suspicion of her dying in the palace. And with the King and Queen of Sweden overthrown with her death and the other monarchs determined to keep it a secret, no one is any wiser.
The rebels know the truth though. The rebels always know.
