71: Walden and Civil Disobedience [2014]

I am 110% obsessed with these word cloud classics 🌥 In addition to rereading Pride and Prejudice at some point, I’m hoping to work my way through my full Jane Austen collection this year. The only problem is, I honestly have no idea where to start! I’ve heard good things about Emma, so maybe I’ll just start in color order 😂
4.7.2021
I still have about 2 hours left in the audio version of this book, but I’m going to write the review for it now because I have nothing else to do at this point.
Les Miserables by Victor Hugo is one of the rather large, long books that are on this year’s TBR pile for me. It’s also been on my TBR pile since it was picked for the musical my junior year of college.
Quite frankly, I didn't realize how much French history was included in the book (even though one of my local librarians warned me of this). Most if not all of the history was cut out of the musical version of the story, and what was cut out I can tell wasn't as important in getting the major points of the story across to the audience.
Other than that, the story is much as I remember it. I haven't watched Les Mis since the last performance at college (way back in 2014), but I was able to pick out where the few songs I remember from it fall into place.
I know I won't be able to sum up the story itself in a way that will do it justice. The love story that plays out between Cosette and Marius is one of my favorites to watch as it progresses, though it would have been better without all the history thrown in between. (Seriously. Someone tell me how all that history plays into this story, because I really can't make heads or tails of it.) I applaud anyone who's read this book before and anyone who even attempts to get through it. I had to listen to it in order to keep my attention on it and to get through the whole thing in a decent amount of time and still keep up with all of my other reading.
As a reward for finally finishing this book, I think I'm going to listen to the soundtrack to the musical tomorrow while working.

October Reading: Day 29
We’re getting close to the finale, but here’s for Day Twenty-Nine out of Thirty-One for the October/Halloween book recs. Another one I’ve been saving is “The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde” by Robert Louis Stevenson. Most famous for his book Treasure Island, Stevenson also wrote some fantastically gothic short stories. This one features a mystery when it is discovered that a well-known doctor is hiding away due to interesting connections with a horrid man. We’ve got mad scientists! Drama! The Duality of Man! And more!
For the collector, part two.
Happy Wednesday! This beautifully double sided book mark is one I got for free!! when I bought a set of Word Cloud Classics (from Costco) back in 2015. I saw that set while out shopping with my family, and my jaw dropped. I thought the colors were so beautiful, and I’d been wanting matching classics to collect. I begged my uncle (I call him dad though, technically, he’s not my dad) to buy it for me, and he did! The front has all the books/authors listed in a word cloud and the back has all the patterns for the end pages of each book! It’s absolutely gorgeous, and I love my growing WCC collection! :-)
Every middle of the week, I share a bookmark and a story. If you’d like to join me, tag your posts #bookmarked wednesdays.
What do you know? Something good for you at Costco. :D Word Cloud Classics set
