Since my birth, some twenty years ago, I have had a passion for words in all shapes and forms. From an early age I could be found reading and writing, even when I couldn’t actually read or write, and there are many examples of my early, one paragraph stories, plastered over the walls of my grandparents’ house. With a family that encouraged creativity, I was able to develop my language skills much quicker than the average child (in my opinion). I love the beauty of language and the way in which words impact upon all aspects of our lives. I now read for a living, reading English and American literature at Kent University. This has enhanced my passion for words as I have expanded my literary knowledge tenfold in just over a year, at times getting into heated arguments with classmates over the political, social and psychological implications of a text’s language or characters, the most recent being A Streetcar Named Desire (I fiercely defended Blanche against a mass of Stanley supporters). Alongside my degree, I have written for a few paper and online publications, including the HerUni website, as well as aiding in the establishment of an up and coming magazine, of which I am Arts & Culture Editor. I have a personal written blog, in which I discuss topics such as mental health, feminism and, of course, myself.
