what is the ao3 collection ‘word jail’? i had a marked for later fic that’s been put in there and now i cant see it :(
HOLY SHIT. Are you telling me one of my fics is in word jail??? Please tell me which fic it is asap.
I've seen 'word jail' before!!! I also have at least one bookmark that's in word jail. Sad. I've never known for sure what it means but I've had a few theories -- and if one of MY fics in word jail, then that confirms one of the theories.
What I know: It is possible to put a fic into a 'collection' and then make that collection 'unrevealed.' This effectively hides fics that were previously visible.
Theory 1: If an author does this to their own fics, then I'd guess they're embarrassed of a fic they wrote and want to hide it. I've also read that some authors will do this if they post a fic that doesn't get any comments.... I would never do that, personally. I would never delete anything I post. Theory 2: So this brings me to my other theory, a MUCH more malicious theory: I have been told that it is possible to put OTHER PEOPLE'S fics into your "unrevealed collection." When this happens, the fic becomes hidden, but *without the author's knowledge.* If any of my fics are in Word Jail, this is what has happened, and I want to rectify it immediately.
Considering we've all thought that Tumblr has just been a resting grounds for companies try out new advertising schemes, it doesn't surprise me in the least that apple has instituted a version specific content ban/filter, and honestly I'm wondering how much complaining from us will be enough for them to not eventually start instituting it on other forms of social media on iOS. Because there's no way that this is going to end with Tumblr they're merely rolling it out here first because we are a comparatively small user base to the Twitter and Facebook's of the world. It will be interesting to see what happens when this happens over there though. How will the Twitter people react to not being able to say bald or girl without being thrown into content limbo?
