What is Canting?
For a blog named “endcanting” a definition of what should be ended is in order.
WHAT IS CANTING?
Introduced in the late 16th century, the word comes from Latin cantāre “to sing.” In the 18th century English, canting also meant ‘ “insincere, conventional expressions of enthusiasm for high ideals, goodness, or piety. “Canting ... to talk hypocritically....” ’ - Dictionary.com
Canting is “language repeated so often and so mechanically that it's essentially empty of meaning. “ -Words Game Dictionary ie. “She had heard so much of the canting philosophy of the grapeless fox.” Synonyms of canting: dishonest, self-righteous, insincere two-faced
Once you’re aware of canting you’ll start to notice it all around you. Words that don’t match a person’s character, words bragging about lies, words that make empty promises and words that think you’re dumb.

it just happens and you know.
Canting is faking empathy and it affects millions of people close to you. When I discovered canting after clicking the Word of the Day, it took me a bit to wrap my head around a word that easily compresses so many words into one. This one forgotten word from antiquity neatly encapsulates the antithesis of my values: honesty, sincerity, genuineness, humility and kindness. The former qualities emerge from all of us when we care for a person, place or thing. The place in our heart from which we feed souls. Souls who were hurt, who hurt and are hurting.
We don’t need damaging canting to continue.
Humanity needs people care. Do you care?
Canting exists today but what can we do about it? I believe the solution to canting is recanting. The act of publicly addressing [an incorrect] previously held statement. Let’s create an intolerance for nobodies acting like politicians. They’re helpless if they stop canting. We can do this because as a society opinions are our strongest weapon. America was built on camaraderie so lets take the bullies down. It’s time for them to stop.
