Soulmates. What I got from StP was that "soulmates" doesn't always mean "happy ending". It means finding that person (or eldritch being, in their case) over and over again, and loving them in some way. You'll hurt them and/or they will hurt you. You will keep being drawn to each other, but it's up to both of you to make it work or to keep your distance to not hurt each other.
And I think that's beautiful. You're "meant to be" but it doesn't have to be as lovers. It could be platonic, adversarial, parasitic, or straight up toxic.
If reincarnation is real, and soulmates are real, I hope that part of our soul remembers our past mistakes. So that it won't hurt as much as the last time.
