Kings on Ice
Part 2 – Baby Steps
“Why would you like a cold place like this, when you could be somewhere else where it is warmer and way nicer to land on? The ice is really hard and painful.” I asked Nate. “Hey don’t ruin my fun, you just need to practice and I bet once you can stroll around the ice you would like it.” “Yeah and until then you should probably get a butt transplant for me, because mine feels right now like I was stung by a bee hive.” I said and got a laugh from him. “You are complaining more than my younger siblings and let me tell you that’s a statement right there. I bet I can teach you. Come on put your skates back on.” He ordered me and came closer to the edge of the rink.
“Ah, no way, don’t even think I’m stepping in that thing again. I rather break my leg.” I said sternly and pointed towards the ice. I turned and quickly wanted to leave the building, but he stopped me before I even could take my second step. “Let’s try it. What do you have to loose. Your aren’t scared are you.” He said with a smirk. That little shit. I hated it when somebody told me I was scared. I’m never scared except when I’m high up somewhere. I’m scared of heights I admit that, but everything else. Nope.
I looked at him angry and then put my skates back on. “I knew that would get you. Now give me your hands and we’ll see if your worthy of the ice.” He said grinning once I was done putting my skates back on. When it came to stepping on the ice I was reluctant and careful. I didn’t want to trip again. Once both of us were on the ice, he tried his best to help me keep my balance. That wasn’t easy. I wobbled like there was an earthquake underneath us.
“Wait. Do your skates fit your feet properly?” he asked me. “I don’t know. The lady at the front desk just gave them to me. I thought they only were one size.” I told him and he started to shake his head. “Well that explains a lot. Wait here I’ll get you new ones. What shoe size do you have?” he asked me and I told him I was a size ten.
While he was getting me new ones I changed the third time today. “Here they should fit better now.” He said and handed me the skates. I put them on and then he immediately drag me onto the ice again. This time it did feel easier to hold my balance. “See it’s easier isn’t it.” He said and slowly he dragged me over the ice and I couldn’t believe it. I was actually moving without problems. “Now let’s go faster.” Nate said all of a sudden and in that moment, I regretted not leaving the ice skating rink when I had the chance to. Much regret.
“Don’t you dare.” I warned him, but did he listen. No. He grabbed my arms a little tighter and sped up. I was going to kill him if I survived this. When I saw that there was a bump in the ice it was too late. He went over it, tripped and fell backwards on the ice. I, of course, who was pulled down by Nate in an attempt to stabilize himself fell soon after on top of him, face down.
When I propped myself up, so that I wouldn’t crush him with my weight, I saw that he was looking me in the ice with a little smile in his face. “What, why are you smiling? Do I have something on my face?” I asked him. “Actually yes.” He said and cupped my face with both of his hands and wiped away some ice. I had no idea how that got there.
We both looked at each other and Nate caressed my right cheek with his thumb. Slowly he pulled my face closer to his and then he just kissed me. For a few moments I really enjoyed it, but then something came to my mind and I quickly pulled away. “Nate, you’ve got a girlfriend.” I could see his sudden change of heart in his eyes which worried me and then he carefully pushed me off him. Without words he left me on the ice and was wondering what just happened. “This just got interesting.” I said worried.
Beautiful Silence
I just know it
and I need no explanation
when I catch your stare
there is no void to be filled with meaningless words
it's the beautiful silence
filling our eyes like violence
destroying my fears
collapsing your walls
this unspoken perfection
needs no words at all
