10. “And that’s how I ended up standing naked on the Brooklyn Bridge on Christmas Eve.” for Yuri and Victor

I haven’t done any fics here yet! But since you asked, I shall oblige, my lovely AN friend. It’s not amazing work, but it’s okay.

“And that’s how I ended up standing naked on the Brooklyn Bridge on Christmas Eve.”

Yuuri stared in absolute horror at his phone screen. Viktor simply grinned back, his cheeks flushed even in the darkness of his hotel room. Yuuri couldn’t believe how absolutely ridiculous his fiancé was.

“And you just… Took Chris’ dare. No second thoughts.”

“Of course!” Viktor’s accent was even thicker than usual and his eyes were almost fever bright. “It was Chris!”

And that was the issue. Yuuri dropped his face back into his own hotel pillows and exhaled. Chris and Viktor fed off each other’s horrible ideas especially with Yuuri or Yuri there. Usually at least one of them could distract the exuberant Russian.

“Yuuri, where’d you go?”

Yuuri cringed at how long Viktor drew out his name. HIs pitch was high and whiny and it grated on Yuuri’s ears. Maybe, if he was lucky, some God would take pity on him and just blow up his phone. Viktor would take at least ten minutes to remember he had a hotel phone. At least then Yuuri could take a moment and breath without wanting to smack the love of his life upside the head.

Instead, Yuuri lifted his head and came back into the phone camera range. “Yuuri!”

“Viktor, it’s getting late. Perhaps you should go to bed, sleep off the drink.” And not spend any more time with Chris.

“But Yuuri,” he drew out his name again.

“No buts Viktor. You have training tomorrow.” Poor Yakov might actually pop a blood vessel. There was a second of quiet before Viktor pouted. He snuggled deeper into his blankets and shook his head. Yuuri sighed. “Why not?”

“It’s hard to sleep without you.”

This time Yuuri went quiet. Something warm settled in his chest and he couldn’t help the shy little smile that curled the corners of his lips. And this was why Yuuri never blew up his phone. Or smacked his fiancé upside the head. Viktor might be a bit of an idiot sometimes, made bad decisions, whined when he was drunk, but Viktor loved Yuuri.

“If you promise to go the bed, and actually sleep, I’ll stay on video till you fall asleep.”

The pleased smile that lit up Viktor’s face made the last hour of video call worth it.

I have a lot of feelings about Zoro and the aftermath of the fight that I have had several people try to reason me out of and they are probably right. But I still hold that Zoro is right, I just think he is a bit of a dick about it. And then he like never gets the chance to have a moment with Usopp? He smiles when he rejoins the crew and that is it? Not that Zoro owes Usopp a moment or like an apology cause he 100% doesn't I am just a bitter person

Zoro is definitely a major player in Usopp vs. Luffy so it makes sense to draw him into this.

What I noticed going into Water 7 is that Zoro starts to change a bit as a character like somewhere leading up to Water 7 he realized not only is he the first mate, but besides Robin he’s the oldest crew member (since the manga starts on Luffy’s birthday and Zoro’s already 19), so he kind of starts trying to be the adult in the situation. Unfortunately he’s not really had to be a leader before on the level it takes to help lead a pirate crew and how he handles Usopp vs. Luffy kind of plays into the whole high school group project feel of part one of One Piece I think. Like Zoro’s a little harsher about it than maybe he has to be and then is super relieved when it’s over like everyone else, which kind of shows he maybe was winging the whole how to handle Luffy wanting to break protocol thing to a degree.

I always kind of wanted a Usopp and Zoro moment about Usopp rejoining the crew that’s bigger than what we got. That’s one of the reasons that I’m kind of excited the two of them are in the same group going to Wano. While I don’t think they’ll address that particular incident between them, I hope that we get to see more of them interacting together which might give us insight into incidents I like to think of as Things the Mugiwara Do on a Calm Night. I feel like all the little conversations, confrontations, quiet moments I wish we could get from canon all kind of seem to be little one shot fics in my head about what the crew says to one another when it’s dark and they’re the only two or three awake with only the ocean waves to hear them.

I love the idea of "Things the Mugiwara Do on a Calm Night." One moment that really strikes me is Usopp standing down an admiral for an injured Zoro and I wonder how Zoro would react to that after/in the moment. I have a little fic idea for a zusoppish fic where Zoro kind of goes over all the moments Usopp saved his ass and is like he was right to do what he did but also if we had left without usopp we would have been fucked

I am kind of iffy on Zoro as a first mate but I definitely agree with the idea that they are all playing it a little by the seat of their pants. Zoro has to be harsh to counter balance Luffy being a little soft but it still doesn't sit right to me.

When Usopp was on the seatrain and was like I am no helping I got so angry cause I thought he was just peacing out. Thank you Oda for the glory that is Sogeking even if it almost killed me

I would love to read that fic omg. There is not enough Zoro/Usopp in this world or a lot of characters I ship with Usopp/Usopp fic tbh.

I don’t think there’s an official first mate with the Mugiwara but Zoro seems to kind of step into it when necessary. Nami does too for that matter. It’d be nice if we could have explored what was going on with Zoro with it because it didn’t sit with me either even if it can be rationalized.

Sometimes I get the Sogeking theme song stuck in my head and I think that was one of the most glorious parodies of 70′s Japanese TV I’ve ever seen
