I've been trying to find a job and I've had to experience the rude awakening that I appear to have absolutely no "marketable" skills.
It just sort of sucks because I'm the kind of person who needs to know what is expected of me down to the last detail (if it's a receptionist job or something like that) and I'm so afraid of failing. The jobs I do best are usually jobs with a lot of creativity, but stuff like web design are always for people who are actually majoring in those areas. It's the same thing with working at the writing center - even though I write so well, those jobs are usually reserved for English grad students.
I can't get a job on campus because those are saved for students who qualify for work-study and I don't (not dragging them down; it's just hard when you have parents who are retired).
I'm not upset that that perfect job isn't available to me at the moment. It's just that I need something that is flexible with my own schedule (which is why designing websites is so perfect for me) and something I'll actually do well.
I can't get a retail job either because my parents are very against me working right now (and that's totally fine). It's just that I have expenses and I feel bad asking my parents to foot the bill.
It's not like I HAVE to have a job. It's more like having a job would really help me out right now.
But I suppose that is a lot to ask for at the moment.
