if i may ask: how did you go about finding a job in a new country? i've been wanting to move abroad for a while and feel very unhappy with my current job. but finding something in a different country feels equally as difficult as finding a job here. any tips?
Hey anon, it depends on your job, I suppose, and where you want to go. Plus, the restrictions on employment in that country - for example, here in Oman and a lot of the Gulf countries, they are trying to reduce the number of expat workers and employ more nationals by reducing the types of jobs they will issue visas for.
I actually retrained as an English as a Foreign Language teacher without really looking into options using my existing qualifications. As I'm sure you could probably guess, there are a lot of forums/websites for EFL teachers, so it wasn't too tough for me to find out what was available to start off with and then after that, I sought advice from colleagues or just went with what felt right.
If it's the company rather than the type of job that you want a break from, I'd suggest looking into overseas recruitment agents. If it's the job itself, then maybe think about where you'd like to go and look into what kinds of opportunities are available for you in terms of visa eligibility and qualifications requirements.
Sorry, I feel like this is quite vague, but if you have more questions, just let me know. Moving overseas was a big leap for me and I could never have foreseen how it would work out, but it's one of the best decisions I ever made and I have had some amazing experiences.
