lookin' good. feelin' good.
enough said. i'm beyond excited. we'll know more tuesday.
finally, understand that selling the world--or your industry, or even just your boss--on your brand takes time. as already discussed, you know that the roads of your dreams are not paved with yellow brick; in fact, they may be paved with rejection letters. the people who succeed are often not just the people with the best-articulated brands; they're the people who respond to rejection by brushing themselves off and moving on, again and again.
Kelly Cutrone
ultimately, no matter how fabulous and well articulated a brand you have, it's of little use to you if you can't sell it to others. i'm talking about getting a job. the best thing you can do for your brand early on is to align it with powerful brands the represent your highest aspirations.
Kelly Cutrone
...when a company hires you, remember what you sold them to get the job and be consistent in providing it. and i'm not talking about your wardrobe.

if you have to cry, go outside.
in warning, if you notice more quote posts than normal, it's because i'm re-reading kelly cutrone's first book in honor of my work month. it's half autobiography half career self help, but all sorts of interesting. kelly, if you don't know, is the founder of a fashion public relations, branding, and marketing firm called People's Revolution. she is also known for the occasional appearance on the hills and the city, trying to whip the ladies of "reality" into high fashion PR shape. for a quick second Bravo cameras were following her from NYC to LA through her own show Kell on Earth. she works with some of fashion's biggest brands, such as valentino, vivienne westwood, jeremy scott, bulgari, and more. i found her on the hills. she was mean. aggressive. and looked like she'd just walked out of a punk concert that she was far too old to be attending. after watching her for awhile i realized, she wasn't actually mean at all. this woman has a crazy talent for public relations and branding. the proper word is blunt. she tells it like it is and if you don't like what she's saying, she's got the goods to back it or you can walk away. she lives for her career and her daughter. she's had a whirlwind of a life, but doesn't believe in conforming her vision for anyone. that includes her own appearance. in the world of fashion, you have to look the part. unless you own People's Revolution. anyway, i know i'll blog later about my favorite chapter in the book. but for now, sit back and enjoy her random quotes of wisdom. i don't know... sometimes she says the darndest things.
If you don't let what you don't know stop you from doing your best in every situation, you will surprise yourself over and over in life...

act now or forever hold your peace.
fresh out of the raving review of yesterday, it's time to act. it's like this, i've been on a roll lately. hitting the top five salespeople in the department list a few days ago (let me tell you, that's a lot of lipstick), rewards galore, one customer hunting down my store manager to point me out and rave about me, booking like mad for trend show, making my daily goals, and on it goes. i chalk it up to my sub-goals of enjoying now, working smart, and being active. also, it's easier to act the part then fight it. needless to say, i'm in good graces. and i'm feeling super empowered. so i called HR. and they directed me to corporate HR. and they transfered me to a corporate recruiter. and i got my resume submitted for a position that i truly think i can excel in. keep me in your thoughts folks. well wishes and buddha prayers. no really, my coworker has me praying to buddha tonight to offer a sacrifice. i'm that serious.
