This is puzzling. I was running Sonnya through Frostgorge Sound because...well, I noticed I hadn’t finished it, and I was in a mood so I needed to blow off some steam. Pounding Icebrood into shards and stomping Dredge Commissars is just the thing. But just as I finished the Groznev Delve area, I turn around and... this. It’s an archaic Grenth statue, with his antlers, deer/calf mask, hood, and bodies coming up from the ground below to grasp at the hem of his robes. Just one problem; this is in the very heart of a deep Dredge excavation/mining site. There was nothing here before the Dredge. The only native populations in the area are the refugee Quaggan, refugee Kodan, Dredge miners, and dispatched forces from the Pact. There are no native human populations for maps in any direction. This is like digging into the Canadian Tundra and discovering an Egyptian monument to Thoth buried in the permafrost. Are the Dredge worshipping Grenth? I thought they didn’t believe in gods and such. The Kodan don’t, not really; they follow a kind of pragmatic buddhism or something. And the Quaggan only worship Mellaggan (and they wouldn’t be underground anyway). Who made this thing, and why?

If you start exploring Tyria on April 2nd, 2013 at 18:37, you’ll complete it by New Year’s Day, 2018. Start your year off right, as the kids say these days.

Anyhow the biggest hurdle to the legendary hunt is complete. Now on to WvW and CoE.

Yakez was busy the past few days making new friends all over Tyria!

It took me until now to get my first character with 100 % map completion. Luckily, I did not do it so I could maybe get a legendary weapon that I like if they ever make one. It just felt as if my account was not “complete” without having at least one character with that star attached to her name and the title available.

On the other hand, I am really not sure I will do that ever again… even though I have two main characters and it would be tempting. But was it fun? No, not really. Some maps are great, of course, and others I just immensely dislike. Straits of Devastation (the Western side) and most of all Malchor’s Leap are such maps. Especially Malchor’s Leap. When I decided to work on map completion with my warrior, I went with Malchor’s Leap first, so I could do the nicer maps later. Altogether, I had 6 or 7 maps left that were not yet at 100 %.

I did stop to smell the flowers, mine some ore, participate in an event and, of course, take some screenshots, so that it ended up feeling a little bit more like a journey instead of a “grinding task”. As usual, for me the best part of this little two-day-journey was finding some really nice corners of the world that I had not seen or noticed before. Or stepping into corners I had not been at in quite some time. Either way, it was a refreshing change from Verdant Brink and I loved that I could glide through the areas while always landing on solid ground in the end (as you can guess, I am not a huge fan of multi-layer maps).

I will get world exploration on my engineer... ...even if the boredom kills me. No, not from doing world completion a fifth...or sixth time. (Twice this month.) But alchemy-dammit does it feel like Engineers hit like a wet noodle when they get down-scaled. AND I HAVE FULL ASCENDED. INCLUDING ARMOR. ...I shall continuously play the Scrapper PoI looping the hammer things until it comes out.

There needs to be a second world completion achievement with a title for those who did it before WvW was removed. “To Hell and Back” would be the most appropriate title. *grumpy old man voice* “Back in my day we had to hunt PoI’s up hill both ways in a blizzard while being hunted ourselves!” It just seems too easy now without the weeks of hoping your server finally gets a certain color, that the commander will FINALLY go after that one little tower no one cares about, or getting ganked trying to fight a skill point.
