For anyone else here who is into handspinning or needle felting or any other wooly kind of hobbies, I accidentally fell into World of Wool's yearly warehouse clearance Outlet Week, where they are clearing out stuff that's gotten dusty and musty in the warehouse. We're talking about 100g of merino wool for about £2. Some other sheep breeds are £1 or less and acrylic is even cheaper.

I've staked my claim on a bunch, so now it's time to let everyone else know. Dated 6 January 2023. Their weekly sales things usually go from one Wednesday to the next, but I really don't know how long this stuff will be available.

Yeeeeessss fibre... yessss...

I am so in love with these little surprise bargain tubs.  That tuft of the pastel rainbow sparkly one I pulled off the first lot is almost used up now, and it’s produced an impressive amount of yarn.  And I’ve stil got like 95% of that tub still to work through!

I’m going to get a really dark matte black/blue/purple blend to spin up as a contrast and knit the two together into something stripy I can wear for Winter.

The other two are also great - the orange fibre has lovely autumnal browns and fire shades in it, and the clashy pink/brown/orang explosion will probably look amazing once spun.

I want to do a quick post about the website World of Wool. I needed to get very small quantities of unspun wool for an art quilt project I've been planning, so I was looking online for places where I could buy very small amounts of wool. That led me to World of Wool's sample pack maker service.

You can create a sample pack by picking from, from what I could tell, their entire range - unspun wool, all sorts of different yarn styles and thickness, specialist fibres (e.g. bamboo, silk, nettle fibre and a whole bunch more), felt, fillings, and on and on and on. I picked four different wools, but the minimum order quantity is one. One!

I got sent an A4 sheet with little pockets with my samples tucked inside, all neatly labeled with the name and the code of the wool so I could easily find them again later if I wanted to. I don't actually need to because my project only requires tiny amounts of wool, but if I was sampling to decide on what to use for a bigger piece of work, it would be super easy to identify which sample was which to order more.

Honestly, I wish I'd ordered more stuff from them because the cost of postage, even 2nd class, was higher than the cost of the samples. Do you want to know how much I paid for the four samples I will be using in my quilt project? 80 pence. Not 80 pence each. 80 pence total. That's all.

The samples arrived within a week even with the cheapest postage option and there were update emails to let me know what was going on. I can't fault the service.

I don't have plans to buy more stuff from them any time soon, but I was really impressed with the flexibility and efficiency of the sampling service that I want them to get more business. If you're into wool/crochet/spinning/etc. and based in the UK, give them a look.

Spinning Art yarn with ribbons?

I am sure someone somewhere has come across this thought before but I found my old ribbon stash earlier and had the idea of spinning fibre alongside ribbon.

I have previously spun some art batts which contained small amounts of ribbon but I am talking about spinning the role of ribbon alongside the fibre – kinda like you would ply with a thread or corespin. But also kinda not.

World of Wool and weekend!

Well I heard today that my World of Wool order will be arriving tomorrow! Very excited as bought lots of new colour wool tops and blends including humbug. This mixes different sheep wool together so I will be able to get some great effects. Andy and I had a fab time at our friends on Saturday but it went way too quick and on Sunday I was in a lot of pain and pretty worn out but I did do some new sketches for a penguin, hedgehog, owl and mr badger! Therefore can't wait for my new goodies to arrive. So more felting today but did get some fresh air. I took it slowly as it has been about 3 weeks with being poorly and it was hard going but glad I did it and it means I didn't feel so guilty eating a fondant fancy, shortbread and umpteen rich tea fingers :)

My husband bought me a gift voucher for Worldofwool.co.uk, so I could buy some yarn and wool for spinning and stuff.  

I tried to order today, and it came up saying that the voucher isn't valid or has been used.  Which is bullshit.  

Two of the characters at the end of the voucher code could be an l, an I or a 1.  (What kind of morons print gift vouchers in a sans serif font anyway?)

And they don't send them by email at all.  So I can't just copy and paste the code.  

This is making me sad and angry almost to the point of tears.  And it's a Sunday, so if I email them, no one will answer until tomorrow at the earliest.

Gift vouchers shouldn't be this complicated.  My husband ordered it before my birthday, and I couldn't even try to use it until now because they insist on mailing the voucher instead of emailing it.  And then the code doesn't even work.

Ignore me.  I just hate inefficiency and everything about this is making me never ever want to order from this shop again, even though they sell stuff I really like.
