I just learned that the figure of Lilith may have appeared due to a linguistic mishap, which merged characteristics from the Lily Spirits and the goddess Lamashtu. And the story of her being Adam's first wife comes from a text that parodies rabbinic legends.
And personally, my Lilith interpretation would get an absolute kick out of being a misunderstood parody. "I was only just a prank, guys."
