“You could live out your life playing VR if you wanted to--” Okay but these characters are still playing from a gamer seat; they’re gonna have to pee at some point, they’re not even hooked up to life support, and what about the nurses who’d have to stay behind to feed and rehydrate them?
“We made a digital copy of the real world, preserving it forever--” Did you also upload the machine running the simulator? Is it running on a self-recharging battery? Who stayed behind to keep it from getting dusty or waterlogged in this apocalypse?
“Now that their consciousness has been transferred to a robot, they can live forever--” I have so far outlived at least five phones, six tablets, seven computers and the vehicles my parents had when I was a toddler. I was born before flip phones, Nintendo 64′s and VHS were phased out. I once made a stylus projectile-disembowel itself just by picking it up, with my brothers as witnesses.
