As far as I can tell there seem to be about 112 armed conflicts currently taking place in the world.
Some of these conflicts hardly ever get a mention in international news broadcasts. The BBC radio coverage is poor, occasionally spotty. The BBC World Service News is better than the BBC Radio Four News. Television news is useless. American stations are rubbish. France 24 and Al Jazeera are sometimes good.
Trying to understand the reasons why these various regions is extremely complicated. Some conflicts are classified either as "international" or "non-international" and some of these regions have multiple conflicts taking place within their borders.

In the Middle East and North Africa there are armed conflicts in Cyprus, Egypt, Iraq, Israel, Libya, Morocco, Palestine, Syria, Turkey, Yemen and Western Sahara.
In the remainder of Africa there are armed conflicts in Burkina Faso, Cameroon, the Central African Republic (CAR), the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ethiopia, Mali, Mozambique, Nigeria, Senegal, Somalia, South Sudan and Sudan.
In Asia there are armed conflicts in Afghanistan, India, Myanmar, Pakistan and The Philippines. Plus international incidents of soldiers being shot dead in the conflicts between, respectively: India and Pakistan, and between India and China.
In Europe and Eurasia Russia is currently occupying Crimea (Ukraine), Transnistria (Moldova), as well as South Ossetia and Abkhazia (Georgia), while Armenia is occupying parts of Nagorno-Karabakh (Azerbaijan). Europe is also the theatre of an international armed conflict (IAC) between Ukraine and Russia, and of two non-international armed conflicts (NIACs) in Ukraine opposing governmental forces with the self-proclaimed ‘People’s Republics’ of Donetsk and Luhansk in eastern Ukraine.
South and Central America: The six non-international armed conflicts that are taking place in the region are split evenly between Mexico and Colombia.
