Nissan's New Sound is M.I.A.
Nissan, like many other similarly positioned companies, has begun to dip into "World Sound" music to keep current and sell to a youth market.
Most recently used is the cut "Y.A.L.A" from the M.I A. album Matangi. The song features distinctly Brazillian roots, continuing the thought from the group's previous release Arular. The title plays on the overused Y.O.L.O- artistically re-imagining it as "You Always Live Again"….Y.A.L.A.
Interestingly, the song was commissioned by fashion line Kenzo along with i-D, the British fashion mag- which may explain its more commercial vibe. Destined to be fashion forward from the start, David Sannwald's video focuses solely on the rapper's face as it cycles through a pop-art fun house of color and flashing lights.
Is designer music destined to take the same route as designer fragrances? Who's to know. One thing's clear- M.I.A.'s new cut is a lot of fun to drive to!
