#World_AIDS_day Saturday, 1st December World AIDS day was founded by World Health Organization on 1 December every year since 1998 with support from the US. This day is dedicated to raise awareness on HIV virus that leads to AIDS (the final stage of HIV virus) and to mourn on the people that have been consumed by this disease. This day is also used for education on AIDS prevention and control. History of HIV It is said that HIV virus has transmitted from African chimpanzees to humans when people consumed infected chimpanzee meat. Once the virus was into Humans, it virus kept mutating into HIV which leads to AIDS if it untreated. What is HIV? When a person is infected by HIV, the HIV virus damages the immune system that helps the body fight the infections off of that person's body. The untreated HIV infects and kills CD4 or T cells, a type of immune cell in the body. The body is more likely to get various types of infections and cancers when the HIV virus kills more number of CD4 cells with time. How is HIV transmitted? HIV virus is not transmitted through air or water or through the casual skin-to-skin contact with the HIV infected person. HIV virus can be transmitted by • Sharing needles • Sharing tattoo equipment without sterilizing it between usage • Pre-mastication • Organ or tissue transplant • Blood transmission • Semen • Vaginal and rectal fluids • Breast milk Treatment There is no cure for HIV; it is a long-life condition. However, if the HIV virus is treated at the early stages, it is possible for the person to live with the virus for many years.
