"Vets around the world speak up about covid-19" This week the current covid-19 epidemic has reached one hundred thousand people around the world and has already killed thousands. Since I wrote ‘the virus won’t wipe us out’, I have continued to feel that we, humans, have responded in a very chaotic way to the surge of this disease. I wanted to learn a bit more about how this world challenge is affecting people, but cutting through the misinformation that we often find in media outlets. To this end, I have contacted veterinarians from around the world and have asked them how covid-19 is affecting their lives and businesses and what is their opinion of it. One of the things I was looking for is the understanding of how well prepared we are, and if as a society, we can learn something from this, something about how our structures and behaviours respond to worldwide emergencies like this one. I have chosen vets because of the common scientific background. I am a veterinary surgeon myself, and although I am not a doctor or a virologist, I believe I possess enough knowledge (you’d expect this from a vet), to better understand their take. I wanted the opinion of people with some level of medical formation. In my quest, I have spoken to vets who are currently based in China, Iran, Spain, and the UK, and I have also talked to an Italian citizen who works in Britain. *** Read more from my Instagram bio *** #covid19 #worldchallenge #thegovet #coronavirus https://www.instagram.com/p/B9eYdcpnXfL/?igshid=1oefizik59vpr
