Continuing with selected images and details from issue 34 of The Test, the March 2022 issue. Posting this one for #worldcollageday2022 (which I only know about thanks to @snimmitkram) because it has collage elements. While I enjoy collage, I also try in this project to incorporate the range of approaches Kirby used, such as #collage The Test is a monthly visual poetry comic that often incorporates formal elements of and references to mainstream 1970s comics. Issue 34 is part of a series called “Thousand Oaks” named for the California town #jackkirby moved to in the 1970s. The series responds to the essays Kirby wrote for the letters pages of the early issues of the books that he wrote and edited himself. The series focuses on the ideas Kirby shares in the essays though there are occasional references to the actual stories and characters in the comics and some visual quotations. The first section, “Dinosaur Dispatches” is complete, consisting of issues 28, 29 and 30 from fall 2021. I’m getting World Collage Day Month of May started with this collage incorporating a Polaroid I was sent by #polaroidcollageclub. I loved the colour of the sky in the image and happened upon some papers including a bit I painted ages ago that greened and blued their ways into the collage.
