Task 001: All About You

ORIGINS

Name: Magnus Bane

Nickname: Mags

Age: 400+

Parents’ names, backgrounds, occupations: Asmodeus, Prince of Hell; mother’s name unknown (deceased); step-father’s name unknown (deceased).

Number of siblings: n/a

Relationship with family: Magnus tries not to think about his family, as it gives him too much pain. His parents despised him as soon as they saw what he was, and he had a rough childhood. His mother killed herself because she couldn’t bear the thought of what she had given life to, and his step-father tried to drown him, which resulted in Magnus setting him on fire as he struggled to survive. He blames himself for the death of both of them.

Children of their own?: Given the non-fertile nature of warlocks, Magnus has no biological children. However, he has practically adopted many Downworlders who were lost and confused with their powers and abilities. The most recent one was Raphael Santiago, the vampire whose parents hired Magnus as a private investigator to find when he went missing.

PHYSICAL

Height: 5’ 11"

Build: Athletic

Distinguishing features: His warlock mark (eyes) and no belly button.

Hair color: Dark brown, but he is not afraid to experiment with colours.

Usual hair style: Neatly brushed back with a bit of volume on the front or a stylishly messy look.

Eye color: Green/yellow cat eyes (natural); brown eyes (glamoured)

Glasses? Contacts?: n/a

Style of dress/typical outfit(s): Magnus is a very stylish person. He often wears fitted shirts, blouses, suits, and trousers. Everything he wears has some sort of detail, either it be glitter, metal, or something else that makes his clothing unique. Overall, his style can be described as (extr?), but he always look very well dressed in unusual pieces of clothing. The warlock mostly wears darker colours, like blue, red, green and black. However, he does enjoy playing with lighter shades, silver and gold in details on his outfits. Magnus always looks ready to walk into a fancy club or chill on the couch.

Tattoos? Piercings?: Magnus has his ears pierced.

Unique mannerisms/physical habits (bites nails, talks with hands, taps feet when restless): He rubs his thumb against his fingers a lot, and he also wiggles his fingers often. When feeling flattered or trying to get someone's attention, he will lightly run his fingers down his perfectly brushed hair without messing it.

INTELLECT

Gifts/talents: Very good decorator, stylish, great makeup artist, could be a beauty blogger. He is also incredibly powerful, given the fact that his biological father is the greater demon Asmodeus.

Shortcomings: Fear of watching the ones he loves die, haunted by his past.

Life philosophy: Loving and being loved is worth it.

Cautious or daring?: Magnus is cautious in some ways, but daring in others. He always thinks before acting, and takes time to think about every possible outcome of his actions. But when it comes to flirting, he is very daring and will do everything to make someone else blush.

Most sensitive about/vulnerable to: Magnus is incredibly sensitive about his past. He doesn't talk about it and has worked a great deal on suppressing the memories that haunt his existence. He avoids the subject as much as he can, and doesn't allow himself to think about it. In addition, Magnus is someone who fully devotes himself to whoever he falls in love with. Although he has had his heart broken many times, he fears that if it ever got broken by Alexander Lightwood, he will not be able to put the pieces back together.

Optimist or pessimist?: Optimist.

Extrovert or introvert?: He is definitely a little bit of both, but mostly an extrovert. Magnus is very blunt, and has no filter. The only subject that makes him measure his words is his past. However, he is trustworthy, and will not likely reveal someone else's secret.

Task 003: Time to Get Magical

CAMERON WESTON; HUFFLEPUFF/THUNDERBIRD; DOLPHIN

“Loyal, patient, fair, hard-working, true.”  

Cameron would have been accepting of any house but he can’t help but feel that Hufflepuff was definitely the best fit for him. He’s happy with the traits that the house tends to display and feels they fit his personality really well. The Thunderbird shows the warrior in him and that sense of adventure that he thrives on both in life and through his love of books.

“Dolphin - Intelligence and sociability are among the main attributes of the dolphin. Also known for their playfulness and loyalty, dolphins live and work together in groups to aid the sick and injured and to defend each other from predators.”

Cameron loves the water and he always viewed Dolphins as highly intelligent and cheerful creatures. He’d like to believe that he displays those same qualities. He is, after all, ever the optimist. Cameron would also do anything to help others. His thoughts always lie with what he can do for people. He’s happiest when he is making other people happy. 

Willow wood. Unicorn hair core. 10 ¾" in length. Slightly Yielding flexibility.  

Willow is an uncommon wand wood with healing power. The ideal owner for a willow wand often has some (usually unwarranted) insecurity, however well they may try and hide it. While many confident customers insist on trying a willow wand (attracted by their handsome appearance and well-founded reputation for enabling advanced, non-verbal magic)  willow wands have consistently selected those of greatest potential, rather than those who feel they have little to learn.

In many ways it scares Cameron just how accurate this is. There is often a lot more going on in the males head than he expresses. He places more importance on healing/helping people so this wand makes sense for him.

ELLIOTT JACOBSON; SLYTHERIN/HORNED SERPENT; BORZOI

“Or perhaps in Slytherin, You'll make your real friends, These cunning folks use any means to achieve their ends.”

This in some ways caused a sad smile on Elliott’s expression because actually. From past experience, he had come to realise that many people had preconcieved notions about Warlocks and about DownWorlders in general. Perhaps that’s why he can empathise with Slytherin’s though. He may be smart, brave and cunning but he would by no means be the type of person to save his own neck first. He uses his abilities and the traits comment of a Slytherin such as his determination and resourceful nature to benefit the majority, not the minority. The house of the Horned Serpent seems fitting too given his love for learning.

“The Borzoi, known as the Russian wolfhound, this is a quiet, yet independent, athletic dog.”

Reading up on the Borzoi, Elliott couldn’t feel any more of an affinity with an animal. It makes complete sense to him that he would get  a creature that shares the same personality traits. Much like the Russian Wolfhound, more often than not he is gentle and respectful of people but inwardly sensitive. Few people get to see that side however. Personal space is very important to the Borzoi as it is to Elliott and while he isn’t normally aggressive or doesn’t choose to display his dominance there has been the odd time in history where he had become aggressive when handled roughly. Borzois are reserved around new people but are really loving around those they are comfortable with.

English Oak wood. Unicorn hair core.14 ½" in length. Slightly Yielding flexibility.  

Elliott’s wand is English Oakwood; The oak tree is called King of the Forest. He likes how it is described as loyal both in good or bad times like the wizard who has it. Apparently Wands of English oak demand partners of strength, courage and fidelity. And the owner has powerful intuition, and, often, an affinity with the magic of the natural world, with the creatures and plants that are necessary to wizard kind for both magic and pleasure. If Elliott was going to get a wand, he’s pleased it is one because of the link. It’s where he feels comfortable and where he feels his power comes from.

CLARA BELMONT; HUFFLEPUFF/WAMPUS; BLACK MARE

“You might belong in Hufflepuff, Where they are just and loyal, Those patient Hufflepuffs are true, And unafraid of toil.”

Clara, had she been asked what house she would expect to be in would have been Gryffindor but she can definitely see the reasons why she might have been put in Hufflepuff. For all her strong words and ability to face danger head on and he lack of patience in most situations, when the situation calls for it, she does know how to rein herself in. She is incredibly loyal to those she feels are deserving  and with fight tooth and nail for what she believes in. Perhaps therefore, it makes sense that her Ilvermorny house is Wampus; the warrior house. It seems to balance out her traits of Hufflepuff with their strength, speed and  them apparently near impossible to kill. Looking at his from this aspect, Clara is actually rather content with the outcome.

“The Black Mare is typical for people who show strong motivation in life and usually represents passion, determination, and an appetite for freedom. Black is a relatively uncommon coat color, so this could represent a part of your personality that you’d rather keep hidden or just reveal to your personal circle. This specific color could also refer to instinctual urges of your mind for the unknown and mysterious.”

Horses are actually Clara’s favorite animal and though it is not exactly an unusual Patronus, she can’t help but smile at the meaning behind them. It holds a lot of her beliefs and the traits she would like to believe she holds. Sometimes they are exactly the type of traits that can make her a stubborn mare herself but she will always stand by what she believes. It suits her.

Hazel wood. Phoenix feather core. 12 ¾" in length. Unbending flexibility.

This wand is much like Clara; sensitive in its own way and works best when their feelings are properly managed and understood. Others should be very careful handling a hazel wand if its owner has recently lost their temper, or suffered a serious disappointment and Clara feels that accurately describes her. The Phoenix core is one of the most rare and their allegiance is hard won. Clara is much like this and she is loyal to a small number of people in particular. Anyone else is simply a job being done and her conscience coming into play.

LUCAS HARPER; GRYFFINDOR/PUKWUDGIE; SCOPS OWL

“You might belong in Gryffindor where dwell the brave at heart. Their daring nerve and chivalry set Gryffindors apart.”

To Lucas, there had never really been any doubt in his mind which House he would end up in. He’d always felt like a Gryfindor. His intelligence had made him wonder if perhaps he would end up being put in Ravenclaw by the Sorting Hat, but he had always known that his heart had belonged in Gryffindor. Even when he was sorted into Pukwudgie, that also made sense. Lucas has always gone with his heart. When it comes to his actions, he can be brash and not think things through, preferring to rely on instinct. He goes all in and will think nothing of jumping into danger if it means protecting those he loves.

“Scops owls are experts in camouflage, and are very protective of their loved ones. They are way too brave for their size and they sing in a different frequency to other kind of owls.”

Again, Lucas could have laughed at the accuracy of his Patronus. He’s always felt more of an affinity with owls than any other animal and while he isn’t a fan of solitude like Scops Owls tend to be, he has had to get used to it in his lifetime. In many of the other descriptions of the creature though, it is true to his own nature and it gives him a sense of comfort to know that his perception of himself isn’t entirely screwed. Now if only he could make other people see his worth.

Elm wood. Unicorn hair core. 12 ¼" in length. Pliant flexibility.

Apparently elm wands prefer owners with presence, magical dexterity and a certain native dignity.  Lucas isn’t sure he can claim to live up to that description, however he trusts given the other outcomes that there must be some truth there that he has yet to really show to its full potential. He can definitely see the irony and practicality of having a wand that  apparently produces the fewest accidents, the least foolish errors given his history with magic. And it is also said they make the most elegant charms and spells. He isn’t sure those are words that would describe his magic either but perhaps that is something that is learned with time. Though he isn’t the most patient hopefully he can learn to do this sophisticated wand justice and allow it to help him produce the highly advanced magic is is capable of.

    BEAUFORT RAVENSCAR - SLYTHERIN - GINGER CAT

Beau is perfectly happy being in Slytherin, he honestly didn’t expect much more than that that. He’s aware he’s cunning, he’s aware he’s willing to do the more....questionable things to get what he wants. It doesn’t bother him. It’s the sorting into Pukwudgie he was caught off guard with. The house of healers was not where he expected to end up.

“Tough and clever, you are resilient enough to withstand events others could not and intelligent enough to excel in anything you choose to do.”

That cat make sense to Beau, the ginger part of it seemed a little arbitrary. He does think he is a intelligent person and if he gives enough of a damn he sure as hell knows he choose to do whatever he wants. His patronus is a little raggedy in appearance but that doesn’t bother him any, he thinks it suits him.

Beau’s wand is made of apple wood with a core of phoenix feather and is 13″ long with a supple flexibility. Beau likes it, although he doubts the legends that surround the long lives of Apple Wood wand owners.
