Jayce raised a brow and twirled the cash between his fingers before he took calculated steps close enough to the girl and held out the cash “ not exactly sure what you mean by that but hey, I’m not looking for trouble. So if you’re pissed and you want it you can have it” he shrugged and waited for her to either take the money or refuse it.

An eyebrow raised but Clara took the money from the boy, sliding it into his pocket. It was a big enough amount that taking it to the police station was probably the best thing to do. “Thank you. I just don’t think someone should gain from someone elses loss in that way. It wouldn’t be particularly nice if that happened to you.”

Jayce was impulsive but he usually would remain reasonable enough to scout his surroundings before making a move on a bundle of cash that happened to be laying on the sidewalk, abandoned and oh so tempting to the young werewolf. He tells himself ‘no’ but his feet still move. Kneeling by it pretending to do his shoelaces he swipes the cash right off only to notice a pair of eyes zeroed onto him ‘fuckity fuck’ he grunts under his breath and gave the on-looker an overly sweet smile “You drop this?” he asked bluntly, holding up the bundle with a strained smile.

The smile that met the man was as sugary as the one he was bestowing on her, though the keen sharpness in the blondes eyes suggested what was going through her head was anything but sweet. “No, but you will if you don’t want me to give you a short back and sides.” Though her cut would be less pleasing than the one the boy might pick up at the barbershop.

Beau didn’t quite know how to react to Clara’s offer. Part of him, the knee jerk part, just wanted to tell her to fuck off. The other part of him figured he could figure out how to brush her off politely. “This isn’t something you can help with.” Unless she was down for kidnapping. “But I’m dealing with it fine.” He wasn’t. Not really.

Clara by now could read what Beau was doing but he’d closed off to her and she knew that he’d only tell her when and if he wanted to. Beau was always stubborn like that. “I see, I understand.” The blonde said with a little bit of a nod.

“Maybe? You ahve got to better than maybe, Clara. We will have time for sparring.” He smirked. “I have been…busy.” Beau said, averting his eyes, trying very hard not to let his voice get strained.

“Fine, we will.” She clarified, the smile on her lips drifting a little when she said he had been busy. Clara couldn’t help but feel there were things there that Beau was dealing with but she knew he was private and rarely shared his thoughts. “As long as you are handling everything?” She didn’t want to pry as in the past there had been little point unless Beau wanted to open up of his own accord. “I’m just... an extra set of hands if you get snowed under.”

“I’m always available for a fight.” Beau said, shrugging. “And it is technically my domain since, you know, I’m the weapons trainer and all.”

“Well then maybe we should make a time for some sparring in the next couple of days.” Clara suggested with a shrug. “I’ve not had much chance to meet you on the roof recently either. I miss that.” It had been as relaxing as Beau had promised, even if she had been a little frustrated at first at her lack of knowledge.

“The only reason it hasn’t happened yet is because you’re never around in the dojo. You put one foot in my domain and you’ll find out I’m not all talk.”

“Well then, let me know the next time you are available and we will put your skills to the test Mister.” Clara challenged in a friendly manner, laughing softly. “But your domain hm? I think plenty would argue that title.”

“You got a problem with it?” Jace asked, pulling himself up off the ground and dusting himself off. “I’m leaving. You can practice here if you want.”

“There’s no need to be so defensive Jace...” She sighed though. “No, I’m good. I’ve other places to go but thanks.”

“What can I say? I have a pretty weak sense of self worth.” He winked at her but it was more serious than a joke. “Please. The only ass whooping that happens is when I beat you.”

“You’ve talked about this supposed beating so many times now it fails to have any effect anymore. Not that it ever really did but I’m beginning to realize you’re all talk.” Clara answered, looking at him.

“Yeah. I’m not an optimist. I blame my upbringing. I’m not going to smile just because no one else around me it.” He shrugged. “I’m fine.” He wasn’t about to open up his heart and soul to Clara. He could barely do that with himself.

Clara smiled a little. “I’m fine; I think that’s everyones fall back isn’t it.” She mused before nodding her head. “Anyway, I’ll get out of your way and find somewhere else to practice.”

“Of course I smile. And can you blame me for not? I mean…the world is kind of falling to shit around our heads haven’t you noticed?”

“I think sometimes you have to find a reason to smile where ever you can. As you said; there aren’t as many reasons to these day.” She said softly, watching the man. “Not that I’m one to talk. I haven’t been the most cheerful of companions recently.” The blonde admitted with a shrug of her shoulders. “How are you getting on with everything the way it is right now?”

“I’m taking it as an insult so you should take it back before I get too mad about it.” He smirked at her.

“There are a lot of things you’d get mad at Beau Ravenscar but that is not one of them to my knowledge. Though you do like picking a fight just so you can spar... You must like getting your ass whooped.” Clara said over her shoulder, a wide smirk on her own lips.

James let his eyes glance over the other form and the back up to her face with a look of disagreement, “I don’t quite believe that, plus you’re a Shadowhunter, you’re supposed to be light and graceful. It’s our thing.” He commented, not questioning her strength, more like questioning her clumsiness. “Nothing. Just- needed to breathe for a little while. So I came here.”

“I never said I wasn’t graceful, only that I don’t think sometimes and that causes me to rush in, act first and ask questions later.” She said with a little smile on her lips. “On this occasion though, I suppose my grace left me.” Clara gave a bit of a shrug. “I just didn’t expect to see you... Or run into you.”

“I don’t know; I’ve been described as a bull in a china shop before so perhaps I’ve got more strength behind me than I realize.” Clara told James with a smile on her lips. “What are you doing here anyway?”

“If I was anyone else hm?” She rolled her eyes in good humor and moved to pick up her bag. “At least something has made you smile I suppose. You’re always so caught up in things it’s a wonder you remember how to sometimes. And FYI; My humor is priceless.”

Beau backed away from her, out of arm’s reach with a practiced ease. “Weedy? Is that meant to be an insult or something?”

They’d fallen into this routine so often now that she wasn’t surprised when he evaded her. “No, not an insult; an observation.” She answered with a smile on her lips. “Hardly anything of you.” Not that it was necessarily true but she doubted Beau would take her seriously.

“Well I wouldn’t put it past you...” Clara commented, giving him a gently whack. Everything turned into a bit of a competition with Beau but she didn’t mind that so much. “Although you are pretty weedy so...”

“I know. My sense of humor needs some work these days I suppose.” The woman said with a shrug. “But yours always needed work so I suppose I’m in good company.” Clara told him with a wry smile.
