BRING DOWN THE WALLS is inspired by the classic house anthem by Robert Owens. Stonewall 50th Anniversary marks the day that a group of oppressed citizens stood up for their right to unapologetically be themselves and showed that they were willing to fight for that right. This mural is one of two that I’ve painted for the celebration. The individuals included in this version are: @iamrimarkable who is a Dj like myself and we happen to have been born in the same hospital in Lansing, Mi. @theohiogirl and I grew up in Dayton, Oh together and moved to NYC about a year apart. @kennykennyphotos is a downtown icon that I’ve worked with at several nyc venues. @roze_royze is also a Dj friend for many years and finally, #JayToole is a Stonewall survivor whose sacrifice and resolve have helped galvanize the movement and make it possible for these folks to be their true and unapologetic selves. No matter what we do with our own life and choices, it’s imperative that in a place free from judgement, we support others’ right to do the same. Love to all of the people in this shot and everyone who made this possible. Stay tuned for more info about the Canal St. version and the opening this Thursday June 13th 2019! Endless and unconditional love to everyone who is touched by this work.🙏🏼🌈🌷💥🌈🌈🌈 #WorldPrideMuralProject #WorldPrideMurals #WorldPride2019 @nycpride @thelisaprojectnyc @wellingcourtmuralproject NYC Pride's WorldPride Mural Project initiative, is an exciting new initiative in collaboration with production and curation partner, The LISA Project NYC, founding partner, HSBC Bank, and major supporter, Macy’s. Both local and international artists, 50 in total, were selected to create murals within the five boroughs of New York that reflect and honor the beauty, struggle, and strides of the LGBTQIA+ community. Over the course of May and mid-June, the complete set of murals will be unveiled, culminating before the WorldPride 2019 | Stonewall 50 season commences and remaining intact throughout the duration of the month's celebration.
