Let’s face it. Adulting is hard! If only you could wish to return to your childhood, you would absolutely rush to go, right? I remember when I was a child, I was in a hurry to grow up fast! My oblivious, young mind believed that being an adult is synonymous with freedom–But now that I am an official “adult”, I found that this belief was nowhere to be found.Lol .
..When you look at the meaning of “Adulting” in Urban Dictionary, it says,
Adulting (v.) to do grown up things and hold responsibilities such as, a 9-5 job, a mortgage/rent, a car payment, or anything else that makes one think of grown-ups.
Being an official “adult” means paying bills, keeping a job, budgeting money, follow up important stuff, duty and responsibilities both inside and outside the house– these things are not included on my daydreaming list when I was young.
I am quite amazed by kids nowadays, they are now clever to realise at their early young age, Adulting is no fun stage of life. A 9-year-old once told me, “Oh, so sad, you have to do those household chores because you are an adult.”, “An adult should have done this and that, why you are not??”… This youngster is so eager to criticise me that I am undeniably an ADULT which is so annoying because you want to act like a teenager at some point in your own time but there she is, reminding you not to! Haha–Don’t get me wrong, I love her.
However, despite these adulting rants, we can’t deny the fact that it brings so much proud and joy when you’ve done Adulting right–Paying bills on time, did an amazing job at work, no feeling of being annoyed to a coworker, having a nice laundry day and all your goals for today’s agenda had met.
So I guess, we should calm ourselves and be happy where we at. And always remember that Adulting is something we need to adjust to at first. This may take a time to find its goodness behind, but as you go along the way, you will eventually realise, it gives us permanent good advantages in life that soon, your future self will thank you and give you a high five! ;)
In a few years from now, you would give anything to be right back in this moment.
A few years from now, you would give anything to be your age again, to have another chance at the opportunities in front of you now.
In a few years from now, you would give anything to have acted most wholeheartedly on what was yours to take.
A few years from now, you will wish you made the most of your talents and time. You would want to know that you had already made more of what was yours.
Reflecting on this period, you will only regret what you did not do.
You will only regret that you were so fearful of making a mistake you never made a move.
You will only regret that to be accepted, you lost your voice, spark, and truth.
You will only regret that you had allowed the things you had to slip through your fingers because you thought you were not enough for them. You thought you were unworthy of your own life, as though that is ever something a person could be.
In a few years from now, you will realise that the pieces were already on the table and that the door was already in the room.
You will realise that we are only meant to make the most of what is handed to you: the goodness and the hurt.
To pull out gratitude and awe or wisdom and learning from inside them.
That life does not happen to us but transpires through us. You will realise that the only thing you were waiting on was yourself.
Occasionally, I experience the temptation to respond defiantly to those who belittle me.
My instinct is to retaliate.
However, upon closer look of them, I consider their lifestyles, choices, and actions. In comparison to who I am, what I do, and how I live, I realise that their circumstances keep me grounded.
While misery seeks companionship, we are fundamentally different, molded by diverse experiences.
I choose to remain blessed, extending well-wishes to them, and reminding myself that those who harbor ill intentions never truly succeed.
This is a book that I recommend every artist reads. Although the title says “5 Lessons for the Serious Comic Artist”, there is something in there for all artists. It is short, concise and to the point, and best of all, a very easy read. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ You know those books you buy, open once, and never touch again because they are filled with dense bullshit artist lingo and terrible explanations, this is not one of those. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #art #artistbooks #howtodraw #terrymoore #worthyreads #progressnotperfection #theivorybunny #chasethebunny #mykindofselfhelp #bookshelf #sepulvalade #sepulvaladebookshelf #ibbookshelf #ivorybunnybookshelf #goodreads #bookstodevour (at San Juan, Puerto Rico) https://www.instagram.com/p/BsV8O5VBDbg/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=btd7e4z923cb
