The constant ache in her chest that longed for home thoroughly burned that evening. The witch could not exactly explain why the hurt wasn’t manageable ( especially when she was so good at keeping it in check ), but as the minutes ticked by, she found herself unable to focus on the simplest thing like reading her books. Jittery and dejected, Wanda wanders into the kitchen decidedly resolving to make something that reminded her of home. Maybe it would only make her grief worse but she still hung onto hope that having a distraction would help alleviate albeit even a little.

Getting everything she needed to make chicken paprikash for dinner and povitica for dessert, she knew this was to be a long process so when assistance presented itself in the shape of a certain God of Thunder, the witch ultimately accepted his help despite a slight reluctance to share in something personal to her.

Settling into flowing conversation, Wanda’s instructions came in-between the smiles and giggles. She explains the backstory of dinner and dessert, describing how they are originally Eastern European recipes that her family used to make sometimes. ❝ We didn’t have much, so it always came as a treat. ❞ As the time went by sharing stories and waiting for food to cook thoroughly, the witch cleans up, unwilling to leave it a mess for the others on the team to deal with later whenever they returned from their engagements.

A tired yet content sigh escapes her lips as she leans against the counter for a moment to rest. She’s especially appreciative having Thor with her. Falling silent for the shortest of moments, Wanda glances curiously at him, slowly inching herself closer. Without realizing what she was doing, and driven by impulse, she stands on her tippy-toes - somehow managing to be considerably shorter than him - and angles herself so that she could brush her lips playfully against his. ❝ Thank you, ❞ she says. ❝ For today. For helping me. ❞

Bucky looked over at the blond, brow faintly furrowed. He had just been sitting on the couch, lost in thought, looking out the window at the night sky. One good thing about living in the Compound was that since it was away from the city they could actually see the stars from time to time. Bucky could spend hours just gazing up and letting his mind wander. Occasionally, he accidentally had, blinking what felt like moments later only to find out he’d lost half the night.

But still- tonight wasn’t a bad one. He was just a little tired, feeling a little morose. Today had been uneventful, almost too boring. Nothing to be concerned. Thor gave great hugs, however, and Bucky probably wouldn’t ever turn one down. Turning fully towards Thor he nodded eagerly. 

     “I... um, okay,” Bucky said, mouth ticking upwards. 

He opened his arms and let Thor embrace him, immediately surrounded by muscular arms and a calming, familiar scent. Bucky rested his head against Thor’s shoulder, lips turning into a full-blown grin. Tension he hadn’t even known he was carrying just melted out of him as warmth, physical and figurative, surrounded him. Maybe he had needed a hug.

Since the night of the party they’d taken to hanging out more, alwayssomething casual or with mutual friends. There was almost always a fair bit offlirting, though Bucky never quite knew just how serious it was. Thor was just…bright and sunny all the time. Maybe that just transmuted to his compliments?But then sometimes he would hit Bucky with things like this- sincere and kind,more sweet than corny, and it threw Bucky for a loop. And then he wouldretaliate, just a little. Though he rolled his eyes at the blond’s cheesy line,that didn’t stop the pleased smile or the light flush that spread across hisface.

    “Yea, well, ‘s pretty hard not to when I got a guy like you around.”

“shh, shh. you were having a nightmare.”

Even with Thor’s calming words, it still took Bucky a moment to collect himself. Panting and shaking, he was nodding even before he registered the words. He couldn’t quite remember the details of the nightmare, but it must have been bad enough to make him thrash around, or make some sort of noise, in order to wake Thor. Usually Bucky was better at keeping his distress quiet. He knew he should apologize to Thor for waking him up, offer to go sleep somewhere else, but he couldn’t quite get his mouth to cooperate just yet. Teeth practically drawing blood from where they dug into his lip, Bucky closed his eyes and tried to get a hold of himself. 

Then the god’s warm, muscular arm curled around his shoulders, pulling him against an even warmer torso. Bucky shivered once before his body relaxed into the hold, practically melting against the comfort Thor offered. Dragging in a breath, and then another, Bucky exhaled a sob, curling farther into Thor’s chest. The blond pulled him even closer, shushing him as his free hand came to stroke through Bucky’s hair. Shuddering once again, Bucky tucked his head into the crook of Thor’s shoulder, just a few tears escaping to run down his cheeks. Thor didn’t say a word, just hummed comforting sounds, stroking his hair and holding Bucky tight enough to keep him from falling to pieces.

Though Bucky had agreed to come to the party with Natasha, he hadn’t really been looking forward to it. Usually he loved parties and relished the chance to let loose. However he’d been studying hard lately for this round of midterms, and to be honest he’d rather spent his Friday night catching up on sleep. But very few people could tell Natasha no, so here he was, hanging around the edges of the party, beer in his hand as he scanned for any familiar faces. Because of course Natasha had melted into the crowd minutes after dragging him through the door.

After a few minutes of searching, his eyes landed on someone tall and blonde and gorgeous. It took a second for Bucky to place the guy as the handsome barista Thor (a memorable name if Bucky ever saw one) that always seemed to be at Bucky’s favorite coffee shop, especially during testing weeks. Debating for a moment on whether to approach the guy, seeing as they’d only had a handful of conversations before. But if you couldn’t befriend someone at a party, when could you? And besides, Bucky thought quietly, there were worse things to do than to chat up attractive acquaintances.

    “So what brings you here, out of the coffee shop?” he asked as he sauntered up to Thor.
